Different Ways to Make a Child's Plain Clothing Dressy

There are different tips and ways to create a dressy look on a child's blouse or shirt. With no design they only look plain. Children's blue jeans or cotton pants too look just plain when there are no illustrations. With a few tips on how to dress them up with an added design or two will make them look dressy. Even though cutting an image of a character out of the material it will be okay. Any design can actually be cut out to use. The correct size design will depend on what part of the clothing it will be used. The idea is to dress up and add to something with no scheme at all.

These are the items to use to complete the design. Any material with a child's illustration on it is usable but not necessary. A material with a design will work well. Anything will work even wide strips of lace, small bows or just colored material. Other items are scissors, thread, sewing machine, straight pins and a good imagination. Just keep in mind that stretchable clothing or material will not work. Any cotton blend other then a stretchy one will do.

Use your imagination to think of different shapes that can be cut out. Here are some ideas, numbers, letters, circles, squares and hearts just to name a few. Others are just the outline of a car, truck even balloons. Of course the cut out would depend if it is for boy or girl clothing.

If using material cut out the size of design to use. Now lay the material out flat then cut out the shape desired. Then pin it to the outside on the pant leg, front or sleeve of shirt (blouse). Next sew around the shape about a quarter of an inch from edge. When clothing is washed it will fray a little but still look nice. Another tip is to cut out the shape of the child's age or the initial of their name. Then sew it to the back/front of the shirt or blouse. It also can be cut smaller to add to the leg of a pair of pants.

These tips or ways to dress up children's clothing are cute. Adding the designs also creates a more expensive look to them. The child will love the new look. Also use the designs to cover up holes or spots on the clothing.
