Tips for Eliminating Fungus from Fingernails and Toenails

Mary Wensing Dvorachek
Fungus can grow on top of your toenails or under them. The fungus that grows on top of the nails can be scraped off. The fungus that grows under the nails, eventually will lift up your toenail, making the nail thicker and harder to cut. The topical fungus is easier to treat. The one that gets under the toenail is much harder to treat and you might need a prescription from the doctor to take orally. It is really annoying to get a fungus on or under your toenails and finger nails. The nails get dark or yellowed and they can get thick and very brittle, as well as very hard to cut. Here are a few ways to help get rid of the fungus. First you want to trim your nails as short as possible with out causing pain or bleeding. This will eliminate some of the fungus, and then it is time to treat the rest of the toenail on top of the nail and under the nail.

1. Soak your toes or finger nails in Listerine. Listerine is a great killer of bacteria. Keep doing this several times a week for a couple weeks to a month. Sometimes it may take longer. You will be able to tell as your toenails need trimming and the color starts to grow back normal.

2. Use Vick's vapor rub and put it over your toenail and the tip of your toe and nail and put a band aid over while sleeping. Do this every night, and you will see new growth and normal color with the new growth of your nail.

3. Soak your feet and toes in vinegar several times a day. Stop using the vinegar if the fungus gets worse.

5. Using white or clear iodine for under the toe or finger nail for several weeks to a month, you will notice if the new section is growing in clear.

4. Make sure your feet stay dry. If you have been out and about and your feet get wet, when you get home wash your feet and toes and dry thoroughly.

These natural tips do not work for everyone. It is important to find out what is causing the fungus in order to get rid of it. Some can only get rid of the fungus by seeing a doctor and getting a prescription.
