Halloween is the mark of a very crazy and rushed time of year. Halloween is only the beginning. After Halloween, Thanksgiving pops around the corner. From there we rush into Christmas. Christmas only leads to more of a rush for New Year's.
At times the rush of the seasons can cause chaos in a family. Families are so busy with the holidays that they do not take time to settle down and set priorities.
During this holiday season make it a point to slow down the excitement and get the chaos under control. Begin with tips on how to control your Halloween fun.
Pick and choose your activities. You are not obligated to attend every festival or party that you hear about. Help your children choose no more than two or three places or activities that they would like to visit. Going too many places can overwhelm parents and children alike.
After Halloween trick or treating be certain to limit candy. One good idea that I have heard for this is to allow each child to eat one piece of candy for every year of its age. Some parents allow children to trade their candy for other surprises that are not candy goods.
If you plan on enjoying the holidays and festivities, do not try to do too much. For example, do not stress yourself out and miss out on the fun by making your child's costume. If you do not have time or energy then do not take on the task. Remember it is more important that you spend time with your family rather than make something for them.
Cut down on Halloween costume shopping chaos by having your children make a couple of suggestions for costumes before getting to the store. Costume aisles are usually crowded. It helps if you know what you are looking for during these outings. Also remember to check thrift stores and websites for sued costumes. Most of the costumes have only been worn one time and are in great condition.
Taking the time to be a kid again also makes for a stress free Halloween holiday. Go ahead and dress up with the children. They will love it and you will find yourself having fun too. Make trick-or-treating a family event.
