The Chihuahua is the smallest breed of dog, but many owners would agree, they have the biggest personality of all the breeds. The name comes from the state of Chihuahua in Mexico. In pre-Columbian Indian nations, this little breed was considered sacred, probably contributing to their high level of self-esteem. The two varieties of Chihuahua are long-coat and smooth-coat. Chihuahuas usually weigh less than 6 pounds. They can also have problems with rheumatism, dryness of the eyes and sometimes heart disease.
