Tips on Finding Deep Discounts on Airline Tickets for Your Next Trip

Airline Discounts Made Easy

Sarah Copeland
It can be very fun and exciting to travel by airplane, but those who have the most knowledge and are the best informed will have a much better time than those who are not.

One thing to take advantage of is the knowledge that the various airline companies compete intensively with one another, which can spell out deep savings when it comes to all of the different flight options available, not to mention the price of the ticket itself.

One can save more than $100 just by having a little bit of leeway when it comes to the dates on which they want to travel. Many websites, like Priceline and Travelocity, give huge discounts on air travel to people who are a bit more flexible on when and how they fly.

There are websites that give you the ability to monitor airline ticket prices, something like watching stock prices, which can give you an advantage in grabbing up tickets at large savings. With a little preparation ahead of time, and by knowing exactly when you want to travel, this can come in very handy for planning your next trip.

Take the initiative to sign up for the newsletters and alerts provided by the airlines themselves. Often times, they will notify their subscribed customers to available flights and promotions that the general public may not ever know about.

Advance booking can save you tons of money. Try to plan ahead at least a month prior to when you want to leave, and purchase your ticket at that point. You can save literally hundreds of dollars on a single airline ticket by booking a month in advance.

If you want to save money AND avoid the crowds, consider traveling in the middle of the week. Many folks prefer to travel on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, so if you take advantage of this and fly on a Tuesday or Wednesday, you will not only save money, but will avoid the rush as well.

Many large cities have more than just the one airport, and it may be cheaper to fly to the other one. $200 can be saved simply by switching airports within the same city. The only difference will be getting to your hotel, but sometimes it can be even closer to where you are headed.

As you can see, there are definitely bargains to be had when flying the "friendly" skies. All it takes is doing a little bit of homework and planning ahead, and you can find yourself saving hundreds of dollars on your next trip.
