Tips on Finding Free PSP Games

Free PSP Games?

Matt Remley
Sony's PSP has been out on the market for awhile now, and we all know that games can be expensive these days. However justified those prices may be, the fact still remains that people will so whatever it takes to find so called free games. Ever since the PSP was released there has been a battle going on, one between consumers and Sony.

What was this battle about? Mainly over Sony's PSP firmware, which keeps users from playing illegal games and other software. Interestingly enough, users have been able to get around these different firmwares by exploiting certain games such as Grand Theft Auto, or features of the PSP itself.

So is there a such thing as a free PSP game? Yes, but if you want to keep things legal then you will be sadly disappointed. First, let's discuss the PSP's ability to download demo's before we talk about downloading and modifying PSP games.

Offical Sony Playstation Store

One of the most obvious ways to download demo's on your PSP is via Sony's Playstation store which is accessible either through the system itself, or through Remote Play by accessing your Playstation 3. However, the downside to this is that you will only be able to download english main stream gaming demos, so that means no rare Japanese game demos.

The PSP Demo Center

Although this is an unofficial PSP demo website, it's worth looking at. On this website you will find a guide to downloading PSP demos from different countries and in different languages. To download with this method PSP users will need a USB connection, and some PSP know how.

After downloading the demo, you basically unzip the file then drag and drop the folder with the EBOOT.pbp into the :/PSP/GAME/ Folder. After that, you can enjoy every PSP demo you downloaded. It's a great way to try out games that you may want before purchasing them.

Illegal PSP Games

Going into the entire process would be wrong, seeing as illegally downloading PSP games takes money from the developers and publishers that create them. However it's easy to point you in the right direction so that you can enjoy entire full PSP games on the go without purchasing them.

First of all, you're going to need a modified PSP. Check out a guide such as this PSP Hack Tutorial page, or simply search Google for more information. After that, PSP users will need to download the game just like the instructions for installing a demo on the PSP.

Interestingly enough, you can not only download full games, but other software as well. There is actually mini versions of Windows XP available for the PSP, and other programs that may come in handy. If that doesn't interest you, perhaps a program that allows you to control any home electronic device that normally uses a remote would.

In conclusion, it's very possible to download full PSP games. For example this website claims to have full psp games for download, remember to check for viruses though. However, if you wish not to download illegally then you will have to stick to PSP demo's from other the Playstation store or one of the many unofficial websites out there.
