Tips for Finding Great Mistletoe for Christmas

Chloe Thorn
As the Christmas holiday season starts here are some tips on finding the best and freshest mistletoe. Always remember there are only two types of mistletoe that are known the most, the first is what we use for Christmas which is actually a parasite and one grown mostly on the eastern seaboard. The other mistletoe has yellow flowers and sticky like poison berries and they are so not one to be used for Christmas decorations.

When looking for mistletoe you want to make sure the leaves are firm and not limp, and the berries are bright and clumped together tightly. If they are laying separately and or signally then it is likely dying. The leaves will usually feel waxy almost fake the more real and rough feeling less quality of the mistletoe. Mistletoe can also be allowed to grow too long, making the stems more woodsy and less green.

Now when going to purchase your mistletoe at the store remember not to be overcharged, mistletoe is grown in abundance and although some type of mistletoe might be going extinct some of the most classic kinds of mistletoe are not. Some of the best places to purchase mistletoe would be the tree farms that sell Christmas Trees out in the country. You can also find them at some local stores but usually they have not been treated very well.

Another great way to find mistletoe for a good price would also be through online or local florists. They purchase them in bulk and so they can sell at a lower price. The online florists will ship overnight usually and chilled so that they stay fresh, this also allows you to order a lot of mistletoe yourself so that you can decorate every inch of your home allowing you to get as much kissing in during the holidays as possible.

Just remember when buying mistletoe for Christmas and trying to find every way possible to sneak in that special kiss that fake mistletoe still makes a heart flutter if placed over their head in anticipation of a kiss. So don't forget to hang the mistletoe over the doorways and especially in the kitchen where all the loved ones gather the most during the holiday season. Put it up right after Thanksgiving so you are sure to have a long use out of the kissing plant. It should stay green during that time without a problem allowing you to enjoy your mistletoe for as long as you like.
