Familiarize yourself with the play structures at various Boise parks - Some parks in Boise are designed to be particularly suitable for very young children, while others have equipment that is more appropriate and safe for older children. As it's really not appropriate or safe to let a toddler climb around on a play structure designed for older children, it's important for parents to be aware of the play equipment available at a park they are planning to visit. Likewise, it isn't appropriate or safe to allow older, larger children to run wild on a play structure intended for much smaller children, as the potential for injury to the smaller kids is significant. Fortunately, parents can get a look at the play structures located in any Boise park just by visiting the cityofboise.org website. Click on the Parks and Facilities link found in the left margin of the page, and then follow the links to view playground facilities for any park in Boise.
Be aware of those parks in Boise which allow dogs - Taking your kids to play at a playground in Boise only to find when you arrive that there are several dogs running around loose in and around the playground while your child is trying to play can be annoying. Although there is a leash law in Boise, it's not uncommon for Boise dog owners to let their dogs run loose (their leashes still attached) while in the park playgrounds. Additionally, not all dog owners who visit Boise parks are considerate about cleaning up after their dogs, and it's no fun for parents to find that their child has stepped in a mess left behind by a dog. The only Boise parks that both have playgrounds, and also do not allow dogs on the grounds are Municipal Park, and Simplot Sports Complex. And while not everyone follows the rules, you will usually find that you can avoid dogs at these two Boise playgrounds.
If you want to avoid crowds and dogs, consider visiting a Boise school playground - If you're tired of dogs running loose at your favorite Boise playground, or need a break from large groups of screaming kids, there is another option. If you are willing to visit after school hours or on weekends, Boise school playgrounds can be a great place to just let your kids play in peace for a while. Most of the play structures at Boise school playgrounds are fun and in good shape, and there are rarely very many other kids playing at them outside school hours. Just keep in mind that these playgrounds are designed for children 5 and older, so you'll have to check for any safety issues that might present themselves for a younger child, as well as supervise them adequately.
If you're willing to hunt around a little, you'll be able to find a Boise playground that is just what you were looking for.
