Tips for Finding the Trouble Spots in Your Curriculum

Mrs. Renee

There is really no such thing as a perfect curriculum, although you may find one that both your and your children are comfortable with. Usually there are several things that you can spot that will identify if there are any trouble spots in your curriculum. Below you will find several tips that will enable you to find the trouble spots in your curriculum.

Test scores say a lot

It is really a good idea to test your child at the end of each school year. Some curriculums come with tests that you can administer based on the curriculum they have been given. You can also look for additional tests that you can purchase yourself. This will give you a good idea of where the weak areas are. Once you find the weak areas in your curriculum you can look for other options. If you have not been testing your child at the end of each year, you may want to consider it in order to make sure that the curriculum is effective.

Time Spent

You can also tell by how much time is spent on one particular subject. If you find that your child is struggling for example, with the math section of your curriculum than it may be one of the trouble spots you want to look into. Different curriculums will explain lessons in a variety of ways. The key is to find the way that works best for your child. You basically will want to see how long it takes them to master a particular skill. If it takes them a lot longer than normal than this may not be the complete curriculum they need.

Learning style

A lot also depends on their learning style as well. If one curriculum is not working it could simply be that they have a different learning style. By taking the time to figure out what their learning style is, this will make it a lot easier to identify those trouble spots.

Lack of Joy

Let's face it if your child does not enjoy doing their school work, than this may not prove to be a right fit for them. Of course there are some children who just do not enjoy any type of school work, so you can not use this as a complete gauge. Perhaps they find this particular type of work to be somewhat boring. If this is the case with your child, than this may also be one of the signs that change is in order.
