Tips for First Time Cruise Tourists

Kaloyan K.
For many people seeing the world or at least a large part of it is something that they want to do in a lifetime. This goal is very popular especially among people living in Western society as even members of the middle class can afford a journey of that proportion. The problem however, arises when it comes to picking a method by which to achieve the goal. Some more hardcore members of society might like the idea of backpacking through an entire country or continent, meanwhile trying to utilize the sometimes extremely outdated infrastructures such as public transport. For the rest of us however there is another option which seems to be a lot more fun and pleasant. Cruises offer passengers the ability to see the world one port at a time, while enjoying the equivalent of a floating resort. As each year more and more tourists decide to board a cruise ship and see the world. I will provide some general yet useful tips for first time cruise passengers.

The first thing any passenger should do is pack plenty of hand sanitation napkins. These are immensely useful as they can be used to remove stains as trying to deal with a ship's laundry services is not always pleasant. Another practical use for them is before eating as a washroom may not always be close by, especially when not on the cruise ship.

Secondly, it is highly recommended for anyone going on a cruise to take along large amounts of sunscreen, a hat of some sort, and sunglasses with 100% UV protection. It makes sense considering the majority of activities available on a cruise ship are going to be outside, this may seem obvious but it is an important detail as getting sunburn in the middle of a cruise is not exactly fun.

The next tip also has to do with common sense but I will mention it anyway. More often than not the ports the ship will stop in will probably be inhabited by people less fortunate than many of those on the cruise ship, if this is the case it is a good idea not to carelessly carry things like an expensive camera, or large amounts of money. If it is necessary make sure expensive items are secured to you in some way so they cannot be snatched or picked from your pocket easily.

Another important detail when preparing for the trip is to pack clothes accordingly, too many will be annoying to carry on the trip if they will not be used. And not enough may also cause obvious problems.

Another good idea is to pack extra bags. They can be used for a variety of things like storing dirty clothes and new items acquired on the cruise such as souvenirs and so on. They are also useful when packing valuables as they provide added protection.

Hopefully these tips will come in handy for those readers that decide to take a cruise. The experience is definitely worth it although for the best experience the necessary preparation and knowledge is needed to insure the vacation goes smoothly.
