Tips for Fixing Ceramic Disk Faucets

You can fix your ceramic disk faucet in a few easy steps. All you need are a couple of tools and an afternoon.

Here are step-by-step instructions for fixing a ceramic disk faucet.

Gather your materials. The materials you need to fix a ceramic disk faucet are a screwdriver, sharp tool, sponge and replacement seals.

To find a repair kit for your faucet, take note of the brand and name of your faucet before heading to the supplier. You might feel most comfortable if you take the disk assembly to the store to ensure that you get a perfect replacement. This way you can find the right repair kit to fix your ceramic disk faucet.

Shut off the water supply. Before you start working to fix your ceramic disk faucet turn the water supply off at the shutoff valve. Rotate the faucet spout. Raise the faucet handle and use a screwdriver to unscrew the handle and remove it. Use the correct sized screwdriver to remove the screw.

Remove the decorative cap. You can remove the cap that covers the cartridge by lifting it up or unscrewing it in necessary. Remove the cartridge mounting screws and lift the cylinder out. Use pliers if you're having trouble removing the cylinder. The cylinder should come right out.

Remove neoprene seals. You'll find the old neoprene seals in the cylinder opening. Take the seals out with your fingers or use a sharp object. Avoid scratching the cartridge. Look for sediment residue buildup in the openings and wipe away the debris with a sponge. Rinse the cylinder.

Replace the seals. Now it's time to put the new replacement seals in the cylinder openings. Put the faucet back together again.

Turn the water on. Turn the faucet handle to on and then slowly open the valves. This prevents the disks from cracking due to harsh water pressure. Close the faucet when you see that the water is running steadily.

Make sure there are no leaks. If the faucet leaks, you will probably have to replace the cartridge itself.
