Traveling with kids can be a real hassle if you are not prepared for it. It is better for you and the child if you have some sort of game plan before you arrive at the airport. Just being at the airport can be scary for children let alone flying in a plane. Flying with kids can go smoothly. So make it easy on yourself, and follow these easy tips for flying with kids.

Tickets

There are ways to do your plane tickets that can make your life easier. For example, try printing out the child's boarding pass before the 24 hours of actually boarding the plane at home. This can save time. Plus, the child will have less time getting irritated while waiting for getting tickets at the airport. Also book the trip for earlier in the day when the planes tend to be on schedule more so that you get fewer delays. Ask the ticket agent to look at the child's ticket to make sure that he or she was not selected for random searches. You can ask for the child to be deselected so that you do not have to put the child through that process.

Airport Security

Airport Security can be a scary thing for a child to go through. Discuss it with the kid that is flying beforehand if he or she is of age to understand the concept of airport security. Warn the child that they will have to let their precious things go through the scanner. Also explain to them that sometimes a TSA agent may have to physically touch them in order to pat them down. Make sure you dress the child right to go through airport security. Have them wear slip on shoes, and make sure they are not wearing any metal. For example, make sure the child in not wearing a belt that will set off airport security alarms.

Supplies

Before heading to the airport make sure you have brought the proper supplies for flying with kids. If you are bringing younger children flying with you, then make sure you have more than enough supplies like diapers, formula, and baby wipes to make it through a couple days. You never know if your plane will get delayed. If you have older children flying with you, make sure you have snacks, books, drinks, and toys to keep them occupied. Keeping kids content with a few of their favorite things will give everyone peace on the plane.

Boarding

Before you actually board the plane you may want to do a couple things. First of all, take the child to the bathroom. That should be the last thing you do before you board an airplane. Give an older child something to suck on to help their ears from popping. Popping ears hurts. So give them a lollypop to enjoy. Lastly, airlines usually let people with little ones go on the plane first. Take advantage of that because it will help in settling the child down for flying and you will be able to enjoy flying with a child more.
