Tips for Generating Article Ideas During the Holidays

C.B.
Holidays are always a great topic to write an article about. Something everyone always prepares for. Something everyone wants to read about. Something everybody celebrates. People celebrate in all different ways, and are always looking for new ways to celebrate. Getting ready for the holidays can always be a hassle. That's when magazine editors and Bloggers take advantage of the this. Around Christmas time, the most magazines that get sold are the ones with tips and recipes for Christmas that appeal to everyone. Here's a few tips on how to generate your own topics for your AC writing this holiday:

Think parties. The best way to celebrate a special occasion is with a party. Provide information about the best party supplies, things you'll need, party favors, having a successful party, etc. These topics are always a huge help, and are researched on a lot, especially during the holidays.

Think decorations. Something fun that we like to do to show our holiday spirit. provide tips and ideas on how to decorate. Maybe even write about a certain line of decorations that you'd like to share with other AC'ers. Talk about certain decorations, and where to place them. Another great idea would be to provide tips on how to decorate faster and more effectively- For those of us who don't have a whole lot of time to decorate, or for us who are tired of spending hours decorating. Or help out others like me, who are completely clueless when it comes to decorating.

Think websites. What are some things that people are always searching for or some specific websites that people want to find during the holidays? Make their search a little bit easier by looking up the websites yourself, and reviewing them also. Tell what the certain website provides, what you like best about it, what's unique, what kind of things you might find on it, etc.

Think crafts. Crafts, they're always fun to do, especially when getting ready for the holidays. Crafts are fun for kids, and adults can also have fun with them too. The best thing about doing crafts is finding new ones to try. List some crafts that you like, tell why they appeal to you, what you'll need to do them, and think unique. Don't write about something so common that everyone would know how easy it is to do, such as those hand print turkey projects that your kindergartner might bring home. Think of different, enjoyable, useful, fun and unique crafts. List the items they will need, and tell the difficulty of the craft. Or even better, list a few crafts that are your favorite that you like to do with your kid around the holidays, such as, "Top 10 crafts for Christmas". Around Halloween, people are usually looking for pumpkin carving ideas. The best and most effective way to generate ideas is to basically do a certain search on something that people would like to know about, or new ideas that people would like to know about.

Think cooking. Food varies during the holidays. For Thanksgiving we probably eat turkey, for Easter we might eat ham. Provide recipes, or provide tips that people should consider to get the best results out of cooking their turkey, ham, etc. Desserts are one of my favorite things to cook during the holidays. For Halloween and Christmas, there's cookies and Brownies. For thanksgiving, there's pumpkin pie. Share some of your favorite recipes and things you like to cook during the holidays. Other great ideas you may want to consider are foods for a certain crowd of people, or event, such as "Foods to bring in for coworkers", "Foods for school celebrations", "Foods for party favors", etc.

Think tradition. All of us might have a certain tradition for the holidays. Most people celebrate the same holidays as we do, except everyone celebrates in a different way. That's one of the things that is so exciting about the holidays. Wouldn't it just be so boring if we all celebrated in the same exact way? It's always nice to learn and read about new traditions, or traditions that other people might share within their family. Share some of your own traditions, or share some traditions you may have heard, read, or researched about.

Think gifts. Gift ideas are always a wonder for everyone when it comes to the holidays. Help readers with gift ideas. These tips should be to help them create their Christmas Shopping List a little bit easier to make. Think of certain people you have to buy for, such as your college professor, coach, grandmother, coworkers, boss, etc. Think of article topics such as, "Best Gift Ideas For ____".

Think movies. When it comes around to Halloween time or Christmas time, it's always nice to get together with friends or family and watch a DVD. For Halloween, it's horror movies. For Christmas, it's family Christmas movies that show Christmas spirit and joy. Give a review about some movies you might recommend, or give a review about movies you would advise aren't worth anyone's time. Think of best and worst.

Think music. Around the holidays, soundtrack is always nice to listen to, and something we all might wonder what to get. Soundtrack is important when it comes to parties, and is nice for family celebrations. My family makes a CD every year, that each one of us contributes favorite songs to. We listen to it as we unwrap our gifts, or enjoy Christmas dinner. Think of some of your favorite Christmas songs that other people should put on their play list also. Tell why you like them, what they mean, what they make you think about, and what you like most about them.

Think tips. Tips are always great, especially when it comes to any of these things- shopping, decorating, crafts, etc. Provide lots of useful information about these topics, that would appeal to readers when doing these certain things.

Think places. Think of places to shop, places to vacation to, places to donate items to, places to visit, locally or online, it's always nice to learn about new places, or read about them before visiting. Tell why you like the place, what makes it different, prices, location, or tell what you don't like about it. Writing reviews is probably one of the most easy and helpful things to do on associated content. I don't write reviews just because it's easy, but I like writing them because they are helpful to others. People may be wondering about a certain product, or a certain place, and reading a review about it is the best way to learn more information.

Think shopping. Think of places you like to shop. think of some tips on shopping. think of some money saving tips. Think of what times things usually go on sale around the holidays. For example: "Great Christmas Shopping Tips".

Think saving money. Something we all want to do is save our money, especially during all holidays. List some places and ways to save money during the holidays. Provide lots of useful information about things to consider when shopping. Talk about how to compare prices, and how to find the best. Talk about where to find the best, and sharing some personal experiences is a plus when it comes to this. Show some of your own money saving methods, and share with readers some of the things you caught for a great fraction of the price.

And most of all, applied to all of these subjects, think original. Have fun with your writing, and pre-read it first. Make sure it is appealing and interesting. To get the most page views, pick a topic which people always want to know about during the holidays. But also, search first and see if there's anything on AC already written on that topic. Original and unique topics are the ones that usually make the higher upfront payments on AC.
