Let's start with something easily accomplished that will help bring that child like spark back. One day you're driving along and spot a snow cone stand. Go ahead and stop order your favorite flavor from your childhood. Getting blue, red, yellow, or even purple lips is apart of the fun so enjoy!
Haven't been on a bicycle since you were ten, they say some things are as easy as riding a bike, and once you learn you never forget. So, go ahead try it out, see if it's true go for a ride and grab a breath of fresh air.
Write a letter to your best friend from the fourth grade. Reminisce a little about the things you did back then. Write about when the two of you went swimming or playing scary games in the ghost filled graveyard after dark. Don't forget to add your trouble making by passing notes in class.
My favorite during the dog days of summer is to grab the kids, buy a watermelon, and go to a park with a swimming hole. Have a seed spitting contest while enjoying the watermelon. After the melon is all gone have a dip in the water splash around a little and clean up the sticky mess.
Walk around barefoot in the tulips so to speak. Take a few moments to feel the clover between your toes. While you're out there take a minute or two and go looking for ladybugs in the grass. Right about this time you should start seeing fireflies. Try catching them, its fun to wonder where they went when their flash goes off.
Plan a family reunion, it could be a potluck or better yet make it a bring your own basket for a picnic at your favorite childhood park. Don't forget to swing a few times, and no you're not too big for the teeter totter. So go, run amuck and have some fun.
Grab an old' fashioned cane pole and grab a can of worms then find a nearby fishin' hole. See if you can catch dinner, or even a game of catch and release, what ever the case the point is to enjoy yourself.
Take a niece or nephew to a ballgame, buy a couple of dogs maybe a bag of peanuts and don't forget the sodas. Remember to root for your favorite ball team. Try to get an upfront seat; it will make you feel a little more part of the game.
What's that sound, oh my ...it's the ice cream truck? You know you've got to stop that truck and get your favorite childhood flavor and treat a neighbor kid while you're there. Not only will it make your day, you'll defiantly feel like a kid again.
Dig around in the dirt a little making sure to get it under your nails. While you're down there getting dirty you might as well plant a few new flowers. That will put a smile on your face and some color in your yard.
Speaking of outside, pitch a tent in your back yard and read bedtime stories enjoying the moon light and brightly shining stars. If you pick a August eleventh or twelfth you'll get to enjoy the best light show ever. Their will be tons of shooting stars about every minute or so you'll see between fifty and a hundred. The meteor shower will be spectacular.
Attend an old fashioned carnival or your local county fair. Eat some caramel apples and delicious cotton candy. Enjoy the Ferris wheel, and hope it will stop while you're at the top.
August first is considered to be sister's day, so how about sending her a snapshot of both of you together as kids being silly. Add a quick note telling her your favorite memory of her.
Now for the finale, the August calendar brings Friday the thirteenth. Defy all superstitions and step on all the cracks you can find. Walk in the paths of all black cats you see. Just don't break any mirrors (only because of the broken glass) not because of the seven years of bad luck, or is it.
Just writing this helped me get back to my childhood, so I hope you get some use out of it as well.
