Road Trip Tips

Road trips are summer staple that is enjoyed by friends and family alike. Getting the interior of your car ready for a road trip is vital for the overall success of the trip, as you will be spending a majority of the trip in the car. This article will look at six ways to get the interior of your car ready for a successful road trip.

1. Emergency supplies

When planning any road trip you should have emergency supplies ready for any situation that may occur while on the road. Emergency supplies should include basic first aid kit, spare tire(s), bottled water, and a flashlight. Also, remember to bring a spare battery for your cell phone or a car charger because you never know when you may need it for an emergency.

2. Blankets and seat covers

Having been on many road trips in my lifetime, I can say from personal experience that seats get dirty from food and drink consumption in the vehicle. Always remember to bring seat covers to protect your seats from food and drink accidents. Blankets are another great item to have in your car for a road trip for emergencies and for passengers sleeping while driving.

3. Check your radio and MP3 input

Music is an absolute necessity for keeping your sanity while on the road for an extended period. Check, to make sure your radio is in working order and that your MP3 input device is in working order before embarking on your trip.

4. Wet wipes and tissues

Wet wipes and tissues are an absolute necessity if your road trip includes younger children. Kids get dirty from eating, drinking, and playing with just about anything they can get their hands on in the vehicle. Wet wipes are great for disinfecting the children's hands and face, as well as for cleaning any sticky spilt beverages.

5. Pastime

When going on a road trip with younger travelers you will want to bring items to keep them entertained. Whether that is DVDs for the built in DVD player, or an iPod with video to keep them busy for hours on end. For the youngest of travelers bring books and toys for them to read or play with, never, ever bring coloring books unless the child knows not to color in on the vehicle. I have had experience with crayons being ground up in the car and chalked into the seats from younger road trippers.

6. Vacuum and clean the car before you leave

A clean vehicle is a happy vehicle when it comes to road trips. Remember to vacuum and clean up any non-necessities that would add to car clutter.
