It makes no difference how old you are, we all need fiber in our diets. Adding fiber to your diet or eating fiber rich foods have many great health benefits like preventing colon cancer. It also helps you to maintain your weight or lose weight because it fills you up. I use to take fiber pills, but I have switched to Fiber-Sure. One reason is the amount of fiber you get in a teaspoon. You get 5 grams of fiber per one heaping teaspoon of Fiber-Sure. That is a lot in comparison to other products. Fiber-Sure is a flavor-free, grit-free and a non thickening substance you can add it to anything from baking, soups to any drinking liquid. Fiber-Sure is made by Metamucil.

The National Academy of Sciences' Institute of Medicine recommends men and women under the age of 50 should take in 38 grams and 25 grams of fiber respectively. Men and women over the age of 50 need 30 and 21 grams of fiber respectively. Therefore, this means the younger you are, the more fiber you should intake. Furthermore, how many of our younger people and children receive in that many grams of fiber per day?

Fiber-Sure mixes better in hot liquid items unless you are using a blender. Also, you should always start with small dosages of fiber and gradually add more fiber to your until the body gets use to the quantity. Otherwise, you will experience bloating and gas. Here are some tips where you can sneak fiber in your family's diet without them knowing.

Add a few teaspoons to your baking products.
Add a few teaspoons to your home made soups.
Make them a smoothie and add a couple of teaspoons.
Add it to a cup of hot coffee or tea.
Add to your hot cereal.
Add to your pancake or waffle batter.
Add to your hot sauces or gravies, even your home made tomato sauce.
Add to smoothies.

Now, using Fiber-Sure will give you that added fiber but won't offer you the same minerals and vitamins that high fiber fruits, vegetables, and grains can give you. However, it's a way to add when you can't eat what you are supposed to. Let's face it. Sometimes, you want to buy the apples in the store or those delicious raspberries but the quality or the cost of the item will keep you from buying it.

The cost of Fiber-Sure is around $12.95 for an 11.7 ounce container which is 57 servings which comes out to 285 grams of fiber. If you buy a generic fiber pill supplement, you get 90 tables, each being one gram of fiber for a total fiber count of 90 grams at a cost of around $10. As you can see, Fiber-Sure is more cost effective than the fiber pill supplement. Furthermore, those other powdery supplements are just too gritty and do not dissolve as well as Fiber-Sure.
