Tips for Getting a Part Time Job

A Guide and Tips for Making it Easier for You to Get a Part Time Job

Jason Ward
With a job recession going on today it seems like almost everybody is jobless or looking for a new one, part-time jobs are great as an in between while you are looking for a steady job or for students who are looking to make some extra money on the side. Now I know that to a lot of people who have tried or looked for some it has probably been challenging or even impossible, especially if you are a student who has no work experience or no resume. Well let me tell you one thing, it's not going to be simple but if you put the work and determination in it eventually you will find one that is perfect for you, and if you're lucky maybe even one right away.

First you're going to need to put together some sort of a resume or else it will be very taxing to get a job, most employers want a little info about you on paper and a photo to remember you by if they consider hiring you later. Now even if you're the type of person I was who started looking for part time jobs with no prior work experience you still need a resume as it will at least show the employer you mean business, true a lot of people don't bring resumes to part time job interviews but if you do than it will definitely make you stand out to the employer. Be sure to add any skills you may have to the resume and any other temp jobs or experience you may have had.

Dress nice, no one is going to hire someone that looks like a slob wearing some junkie casual clothes, instead put on your best suit, or at least a button up shirt with some presentable pants and dress shoes.

When you're looking for the places to apply to you are going to have to do a little research, there are a lot of free websites that allow you to search part time job listings in your area including newspaper adds, I sight that I found has worked the most for me is Craigslist.com which has a site for every major city and gives a lot of listings for all sorts of jobs. Another option is to just walk around a busy area or downtown and look for signs in store windows or fliers, or you could even just try to walk into a place and enquire if they are interested.

As you walk into each place act self confident and mature but also remember to be courteous and give the manager a reason to hire you by being friendly and communicative. Do not be offended if they say no, you have to be able to take it and walk away, chances are you are going to get a few no's but remember the more no's you get the more likely the next one will be a yes.

The last piece of advice that I can give is always be cheerful, never walk into a place gloomy because the last 50 places said no, walk into each and every place with a smile on your face and determination.
