Those who have undergone or is undergoing chemotherapy may say that the worse thing about the therapy is the nausea and the inability to eat. However, physicians will tell you those who are undergoing chemotherapy needs to eat. They need to keep up their strength. They need to do what they can to help keep their immune system as strong as they can. But how can they do this when they feel so bad?
Here are some tips that may help you get in the mood to eat.
Try to Find Foods That Have Taste
If you are undergoing chemo or radiation therapy, you may soon find that everything you eat has a metallic taste to it. For this reason, you need to try to add as much taste or flavor to your foods as you can. For example, if you can't stand the taste of plain water trying adding a slice of lemon to it or some other kind of flavor.
Try To Add Fiber To Your Diet
Yes, you could become constipated while undergoing therapy. A way to fight this is to add fiber into your diet. You may have to do this slowly if you are suffering stomach upset.
Snack of carbohydrates
You may find that you may be able to tolerate carbohydrates better than most foods. Try eating foods such as: hot cereals, toast with peanut butter, or pita bread with your favorite toppings.
Ease Diarrhea Symptoms With The Right Foods
If you are experiencing diarrhea, watch what you eat. Avoid foods such as: greasy foods, fried foods, caffeine, sugary drinks, and fruit juices. Try eating: oatmeal, skinless fruit and sweet potatoes.
Keep A Food Diary
To better remember what foods agree with you, keep a food diary. Write down what you eat, what time you eat and how you feel a little afterward. This will tell you which foods seem to agree with you the most. You should also mark down which days you had treatment.
Yes, radiation and chemotherapy can wreck havoc on your digestion and your digestive system. Yet, we all know this doesn't mean that we can forgo eating all together. We just have to take better care in what we eat and how we eat. This is the best way to ensure that we become healthier, quicker.
