Tips for Green Spring Cleaning

Jessica Rowe
Spring is just around the corner and millions of people are preparing for that tedious task, of Spring-cleaning. Instead of your normal routine how about trying something different this year by adding Green into your cleaning. Not sure how. Here are five fabulous tips for Green Spring Cleaning.

1. Use a Green Cleaner
Is your cleaner eco-friendly, how about toxic free? Purchasing green, eco-friendly cleaners are a great way to green clean, however green cleaners can easily be made at home with items you most likely have. Common kitchen items such as white vinegar, baking soda, olive oil and lemon juice are the key ingredients in a green cleaner.

Example: Diluted white vinegar in a spray bottle makes for a great, inexpensive, green glass cleaner. Mold and mildew can be wiped away with plain straight vinegar.

2. If you do not Use it or Need it get Rid of it
Getting rid of stuff that you do not use or need anymore is a great way to be green and clean up clutter. Do not just throw the un-needed or wanted in the trash, be smart about what you do with it. Recycle what can be recycled and things that can used by someone else can be donated to charities, sold at a yard sale or even online on eBay.

3. Use what you Have
Paper towels are easy and convenient, but after a full day of cleaning, they can lead up to a bunch of waste. Instead of using paper towels to clean with, use rags, and sponges you already have. Old shirts and sheets no longer being used are also great for cleaning. These items are easy to wash and can be used over and over again, saving a ton of what would be, wasted paper towels.

4. Go Paperless
If you already pay your bills online, but still get a paper bill in the mail, then consider going paperless. Getting rid of unnecessary mail means less around the house and less wasted paper. This is a great way to go green not only for you but the environment as well.

5. Dry Clothes Outside
With Spring time come warmer weather and warmer weather means it is time for an outside clothesline. On nice days when it is warm, dry your clothes outside on a clothesline instead of using the dryer and wasting energy. Drying your clothes outside will not only leave them smelling fresh, but will also help leave a little money in the bank.
