Tips for Growing Beets in Your Garden

Beets are delicious and will grow with little effort if the conditions are correct for their happiness. This article will provide you with detailed tips for growing beets in your garden.

The weather is important to consider when planting beets, but the weather also allows you to grow beets at several stages in your garden. Beets like cool weather and they love moisture. This growing condition will allow you to plant beets in the early spring and late summer for more than one harvest. Beets are wonderful growers in this type of climate and can be planted as soon as the ground can be worked.

Beets like really rich soil and they will thrive with added compost or manure. When planting beets it is important to make sure your soil is nutrient rich and moist. Beets do not do well in competition so make sure to thin and weed them if you want them to survive and thrive. When beets are about 2 inches high weed them as much as possible. The final beet spacing should be about 3-4 inches apart for maximum growth. Remember that beet greens can be cooked or added to salads; so keep this in mind when thinning your beet plants.
