1. Turkey
2. Dressing
3. Cranberry sauce
4. Vegetable
5. Dinner rolls
6. pumpkin pie
7. Other desserts
8. Jello
9. Potatoes
10. pickles and other veggies
Now that you list is made, usually people will call and ask what they can bring. You will make the Turkey and dressing, and you let your guests choose from the list what they would like to bring. This not only cuts down on what you have to prepare as well as the expense. After Thanksgiving Dinner you allow your guests to take home some of the left overs of Turkey and dressing, they in turn give you some of what they had brought for the meal.
Eating smaller amounts of everything served on Thanksgiving will leave room for eating during the afternoon at someones house, eat light there if you are planning on going somewhere else for supper.
If you are preparing Thanksgiving dinner and then having supper as well, it is good to eat light, then serve dessert a few hours after the meal. For supper just take and warm up some Turkey and have all the fixings out for Turkey sandwiches. Put out some raw veggies and maybe some chips. By serving a lighter meal you don't end up so stuffed.
Another way to break up Thanksgiving so you will not offend anyone by not eating is to plan along with the other places you will be going for Thanksgiving. You can start and have Dinner at one house, have the dessert at another house, and have veggies and snacks at another, with having some Turkey warmed up for all the houses. It just is not Thanksgiving with out the Turkey. You can also serve the dinner, and then use left over turkey and make up a casserole for supper.
Spacing out the hours of when each home will be serving food, will also help out on not over eating.
Some other ways is to plan with the other parties what will be served at each home. You can have appetizers and beverages at one home. The Turkey, dressing and potatoes and veggies and beverage at another home, and the desserts, jello, beverages at another home.
You can also plan on starting earlier, such as having a Thanksgiving brunch at one home, part of the meal at another, the rest of the meal at another, and dessert at another.
Now a days many people go out to eat for Thanksgiving. This not only saves on having to prepare the meal, you don't have the mess of having to clean everything up. If you decide on going out to eat. Some places make a Turkey for you to take the left overs home. This way you can go to someones home, and have left overs for supper, make up some sandwiches, or put out buns, bread, butter, mayonnaise, raw vegetables, jello, desserts, beverages, and have a buffet style snack for your supper.
Ways to cut down on your cooking time. Use Reynolds Turkey oven roasting bags, This will cut your cooking time in 1/2 for the turkey. Prepare you foods the day before. Put your dressing in a casserole dish, this way you can bake it and then just serve. It saves extra steps and dishes.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
