Everyone always tells you to never carry cash. It is true that cash can get easily stolen but there may be a time or two when you may wish you have a little bit extra on hand. A good example of this is when my family went on vacation in February to Florida. While we were there my husband decided to take us to Miami Beach so our son could see the ocean for the first time. At this time my son is really sick, which causes a fight between me and my husband over him going into the ocean. If it had not been for that fight we would never of known our car was being towed away. Miami Beach is one of the cities that is known for bad dealings, which I will explain more later on. When we get to the tow company they only accept cash - which we did not carry. So carrying a little extra cash on you is a good thing.
I had mentioned my son had gotten sick while we were down in Florida and that brings me to tip number 2. Bring a first aid kit and in it include medicine. It seems silly to pack your own band-aids and cough syrup but it does come in handy. When my family went to Missouri the change in climate made me very sick. Had I taken my own advice I am given here I would have been prepared for my son getting sick.
Now on to tip three. Thankfully I have never had this happen to me but I have heard stories of it. Always carry a change of clothing, especially undergarments, in your carry on bag. This will come in handy in the event your luggage gets lost or stolen.
Another important item to carry into your carry on bag is any flight or hotel information. Those things, including tickets to events and direction maps, are not something you wish to be losing.
And finally, personal hygiene products. A toothbrush is easy enough to replace but the hassle of going out and finding a store is usually not worth the trouble. So always carry your personal hygiene products with you.
I mentioned this one earlier when I talked about Miami Beach. Always research your location. By doing a little bit of research on the locations you are going you are getting a better understand of what is going on there and things you don't want to do. Normally, most of us will research fun activities to do but hardly anyone researches the negative aspects of a place.
Tip number six is to always pack for any weather. When we went to Florida we were thinking 'Florida warm...' and were very wrong. We actually wore are winter coats while at SeaWorld, that is how cold it was. Always plan for any type of weather by packing at least one sweater and jacket.
Don't let your children pack there own bags and if you do make sure you supervise them. Children have a bad habit of bringing what they want and not what they need but make sure they at least have one thing to keep themselves entertained with while at the hotel.
The most important tip I can give you is to plan for the trip. Since we were going to Florida my husband thought it would be a nice surprise to take me to the Daytona 500 for Valentines Day, and it was a very nice surprise. As a racing fan I could not ask for a better gift. However, my day ended with me walking out because my son, who hates racing, was complaining the whole time. So, basically, if you are going to plan a trip, plan it so everyone will have fun or else your fun will get ruin.
Another thing to remember, especially if you are driving, is to make sure you always leave your information with someone. This way they can get a hold of you if they need to or in the event of an accident someone can get a hold of them. It is very important, not only for safety reason, to make sure one of your immediate family members or friends knows where you are staying and places you may be going - especially if you are going out of the country.
Finally, the most important tip to remember while you are on vacation is to have fun, relax, and enjoy yourself. That is why you are taking a vacation and you should not allow the little nuisances in life get in the way of your, or your family, having a good time.

Post a CommentI'm dyin for a vacation :P Thanks Theresa for the tips :)
I would personally take the hail storm over the bears I think. Vacations are fun. Even with the 'bad' that has happened in them, it makes it worth remembering.
When we're on vacation - come rain, sleet or snow, we pack lots of clothing but our sense of humor is the first thing to bring :) We're usually camping - we've run out of gas, had a hail storm in a tent (not fun(+)) and even encountered some big bears. Life goes on, vacations are the very best ! cheers :)
Thank you. You go on vacation to take it easy, and to get there you have to torture yourself with getting ready.
Great tips! Some of these people not remember to do. Getting ready for vacation is always so hectic.
