Many people often purchase product after product to improve the appearance of the skin with no results, not knowing that the problem might be caused by the foods they ingest. The types of foods we eat can not only reverse the effects of aging but it can also cure skin problems such as acne, and eczema. What are some of these foods? How does each of these foods help in improving the skin?

Vegetables are essential for the maintenance of the body's inner health but can also do wonders for the skin. Vegetables containing vitamin A improves agility and prevents dehydration and dryness of the skin. One vegetable that is very high in vitamin A is sweet potato. Other types of vegetables are broccoli, spinach, asparagus, kale, carrots, spinach, avocado, peas, squash, and green peppers. According to the Academy of Dermatology, soy has the ability to improve skin tone and the effects of premature aging on the skin. Antioxidants contained in vegetables such as tomatoes, red peppers and those with vitamins, A, C, and E and beta carotene help to rid the skin of the harmful chemical effects of the environment.

Fruits are also essential to the skins health. Fruits such as tomatoes, cantaloupe, watermelon, peaches, kiwi, oranges, and blackberries are high in vitamin A. Fruits are also high in antioxidants.

It is important to eat a variety of fruits and vegetables each day. This ensures that you will get all of the nutrients the body needs to have radiant skin. Orange and yellow fruits and vegetables are high in beta carotene and vitamin C. Both work together to prevent wrinkles. Red and Green fruits and vegetables are high in antioxidants and vitamin C. Last but not least, blue and purple fruits and vegetables contain the highest amount of antioxidants for the repair and youthful appearance of your skin.

Other nutrients can be of great help. Proteins aide in the repair and maintenance of damaged tissue. This helps to alleviate dry skin. Carbohydrates contained in honey and brown sugar improves acne and other conditions by eliminating toxins from the body. Of course eight glasses of water should always be included in our diet everyday to promote hydration of the skin. Fatty acids, contained in foods such as salmon, canola oil, flaxseed, and walnut, are critical in the absorption of nutrients and the removal of toxins from the body. Removal of toxins will improve the outer appearance of the body.

In summary, a well balanced diet is the key to maintaining healthy skin. A variety of fruits and vegetables, water, and foods containing fatty acids and omega fats can help to achieve healthy looking skin. All it takes on our part is consistency.
