Keeping Feet Healthy This Winter

Winter is slowly but surely on its way and we all wonder how we can keep our feet warm, healthy and moisturized during the winter months. Here are some tips for doing just that, this winter season!

Since your feet dry out more during the winter season more often than the summer season due to the cold weather of winter, you need to spend extra time caring for your feet in the winter time. To do this follow the following steps for happy healthy feet:

1. Buy a pumice stone and use it once a week after showering or bathing to gently remove dry, flaky, dead skin on the feet.

2. Make sure to moisturize your feet with foot cream or lotion daily making sure to give the extra dry areas of your feet extra treatment with foot cream or lotion!

3. After moisturizing your feet, make sure to put on a pair of warm wool socks for a few hours to lock the moisture of the foot cream or lotion into your feet.

4. Although you want to have your feet moisturized you don't want to have the wrong kind of moisture so be sure to Not wear cotton socks during the winter season so that they do not lock in sweat and feet moisture that can cause bacteria in your feet. Cotton socks will not allow your feet to breathe in winter, wool socks would be better cause they trap sweat and draw it away from the feet.

5. Make sure you have or buy a high quality pair of shoes for your feet this winter season. Just a regular pair of tennis shoes is not good because they can let water into the shoe near your feet.

6. Always wash your feet in warm water, doing so will keep your feet warm and result in the rest of your body staying warm as well. If your feet are cold, it is more likely that the rest of your body will also be cold as well.

7. Although you may not want to stay barefoot because of the cold, stay barefoot a few days every once in awhile to let your feet air out with the fresh winter air, be sure to stay inside and not let your feet get to cold to get frostbite.

8. Wear a warm and fuzzy pair of socks when you are not barefoot to keep feet comfy and happy.

9. Keep toenails trimmed and filed, when you wear socks and shoes, if your toenails are not trimmed they may end up ingrown because of being pushed into the toes. Cut them after showering or bathing when the toenails are softer. Cut them following the shape of the toe, taking care not to get them to short.

Hope these tips help and that your feet stay happy, healthy and warm this winter season!
