Plus Size Prom Dresses

Following are several tips to help you buy your very own special prom dress. Don't fret, if your prom dress must be purchased in a plus size. This is a time to feel great about going to the prom and purchasing a dress that makes you feel beautiful.

Sure, maybe most of us wish we were a smaller size, but that shouldn't keep you from pondering over and then choosing the dress you truly love.

Start early to look for your dress. If you live near a larger metropolitan area, go to a few stores. Look at the styles that are available. Try them on. What colors and fabrics look best on you? Can you find what you'd like in your price range?

If you have a Macy's or JC Penny's store nearby, those would be good places to start. They most likely will be able to show a variety of colors and styles. Think about the style of dress that would look best on you. Of course, you want to be stunning, but yet you probably want something similar to what others will be wearing. Ask around, are other girls wearing long or short dresses - or something in between? If you do choose a strapless dress, perhaps you'd feel more comfortable wearing some sort of cover up or wrap.

JCPenny has a variety of inexpensive, yet lovely, dresses in several styles and colors. They have both long and short dresses and dresses combined with wraps.

Macy's shows many styles of Ruby Rox and Trixxi dresses in plus size. They look truly elegant. Styles shown include one shoulder, long, pleated, strapless, empire, regular waist and more. Black, white and a vast variety colors are also available. Prices again are mostly under $100.

Some girls want to choose their dress from the store. Other's want more variety and look on line. Sometimes you can find a dress you love and then check to see if it is less expensive if purchased on line. However, be aware of shipping costs and check about return policies.

On line, Sydney's Closet presents dresses mostly under the $200 range. Some of the dresses seem to be more designer type looking. They also showed many different styles and colors.

Serendipityprom.com's dresses were stunning and more expensive. For under $500 your dress could be quite unusual and lovely.

Promgirl.com's selection was huge with a variety of mid to higher range prices. These included multi-colored, halter top and most any color to please any young woman.

Some young women may have a seamstress available who could easily blend ideas from several dresses that they see and love. Also, a good seamstress could help you to have a great fitting dress.

When you try on your dress, be sure it's neither too tight, nor too loose. Either one will distract from the beauty of the dress and you will be uncomfortable pulling and tugging all evening. This is your night to shine. Whether you choose neon pink, black, white, red, turquoise blue, purple or a multicolor, choose the dress you truly love.
