1. Do something that you enjoy doing together right before trying to conceive. Go to a movie together, go bike riding, go for a long walk in the country. Do whatever you both love to do that makes you feel closer as a couple. Then, when you later initiate the conception process, you'll be more relaxed.
2. Step out of your normal routine. One thing that keeps us stressed out is that we do the same thing day in and day out. It gets old, and it gets boring. It's also taxing not to have interesting things happen in your daily activities. Even if you didn't have a stressful day on Friday, chances are, the rest of the week was stressful. So, just going to work Friday will bring back the stressful memories of the events that transpired earlier in the week. If you take the day off, or even drive home a different way, you can relieve some of the stress of your normal day.
3. Get out of town. Most of your stressors probably occur at home or at work. You get up in the morning and have to fix breakfast for your other children and get them off to school. You go to work, where your boss yells at you for not getting your reports in on time. Then, you come home and get the mail, only to see all of the bills you can't pay this month. If you go on a trip, you won't think about the stressful things because you won't see them.
4. Meditate right before trying to conceive. The two of you can sit down together, facing each other with legs crossed on the floor. Pick a word to be your mantra. Say it over and over together slowly, until you feel relaxed and in sync with each other. Then, you're ready to try and conceive.
5. Better equip your body to deal with stress before it happens. Take vitamins, get enough sleep, and eat well. This way, when stress comes your way, you can deal with it, and help make it go away. If you have had plenty of sleep, you'll notice that your boss's demands and child's needs seem easier to handle. Stressors won't be such a big deal if you're ready for them. You'll decrease your overall level of stress.
6. Create a stress free zone in your home. Reserve one room in your house that is used just to relax. Nothing stressful can enter the room. You make a pact that when you enter the room, you only enjoy yourselves and unwind. Leave the bills, kids, and work outside in the rest of the house. To help set the mood, choose calming colors like turquoise and shades of blue and green. Avoid yellow, orange and red. Go in the room for awhile before trying to conceive. You can even use the room during the love making process.
7. Exercise. If you exercise, your body will overall feel better and be less stressed. Find an activity that makes you and your partner feel good. Maybe running is your gig, or perhaps tennis will be your game.
8. Give each other a back massage. This works wonders for the level of stress you feel. Your muscles are all uptight from working and dealing with life itself every day. If you get a back massage, you can loosen those tense muscles and feel the stress move out of your body.
9. Get acupuncture, and release the stress in your body with this alternative stress remedy. Go together to an acupuncturist. This should help reduce the overall level of stress in your body.
10. Gaze into each other's eyes, until you both feel calm. Maybe this will make you laugh at each other. If you can't pull this one off, then consider something else that will make you laugh. Laughing is also a great stress reliever.
