Tips to Help You Name Your Purrfect Kitty

Linda M. McCloud

You just got a brand new kitty. She is a bundle of enjoy and love. Now you have the great opportunity of naming her. Yet, you are at a lost at what to call her and you are even a tad bit nervous. You want to give her a name that suits her. You want to give a name that shows her personality and one that isn't too generic. But how do you choose her name? Here are some tips to help you decide.

Pick A Person's Name

Yes, it is completely all right to name your new kitty by a person you know, a person you respect or just by a person's name you like. For instance you can call her Polly, because you had an Aunt Polly you loved. You can call her Lizzie because she seems to be stubborn like your childhood friend Elizabeth.

Pick A Name From Your Favorite Movie

Was there a favorite character, a favorite city or a favorite street that was emphasized in your favorite movie? You could name your kitty from this. Think about it. If you liked the movie "Grease," you could name your kitty Pinky. If you liked the movie "Gone With The Wind" you could name her Georgia.

Pick A Name That Describes Her

If she is white, you can call her Snowball. If she has white paws you can name her Bootsy. If she likes to play with little twigs you can name her Twiggie.

Pick A Name That You Like

Finally, just pick a name that you like. If you always liked the name Tibbie, just name her Tibbie.

Remember at the end of the day, a name is just a name. She doesn't care what you call her. All she really hears is the love in your voice anyway.

Great article! Fun! One of my first dogs after I got married was called Benjamin J. Franklin. He was a pure bread german shepherd. I still miss him.

Fun article. I read once that it is good to have an s- sound in a cat's name, because cats hear the s- almost as a dog hears a whistle. It especially gets their attention.
