Tips to Help You Paint a Door

If you plan to paint your doorway there are a couple of things you should know. It can be a little tricky to paint something that moves from one room to another, or outside to inside. Here are some tips to keep the paint from going where you do not want it to go.

The first thing you are going to want to do, at least if you are painting a door that goes from outside to inside, is wait for a nice sunny day that does not have any rain or strong winds. Remember you will need to have your door open until it dries before you will b e able to close the door.

The next thing you will want to do is tape off the side of the door you do not want to paint. This is so that you do not accidentally paint the other side you do not painted yet. If you plan to paint both sides of the door the same color you can skip this step.

Now you have a new choice. You can either remove your door knobs, and locks, or you can use masking tape and newspaper to mask them from your paint brush. It might be better to taker them out, but if they are really old or you are afraid to remove them because you might not be able to reinstall them you may want to choose the tape and paper instead.

You will also have a choice about the windows. You can either tape and newspaper them to keep them safe from unwanted paint, or you can just scrape off the paint with a razor after you are done painting. Scraping is a little easier if you are a little adept at scraping.

Now open up the door and place a drop cloth underneath it. This will keep your floor safe from drips that you will surely have. Also make sure you have enough room on your drop cloth to place your paint can on. Now that you have that decide which sides color you are also going to use for the inner part of the door that no one sees until it is open. Then start painting with that color. If it has a screen door that goes with it that you plan to paint the same color you might want to keep that door unpainted so that your house has a little protection from the elements before it dries.
