Most people have a job loss when it's least expected. This is a horrible situation to have happen and your finances will take a significant hit. When you are living on limited income like unemployment and whatever savings you have, it can be scary as you aren't sure if you are going to make it or not. To stretch the dollars you do have to spend, it's best to make some changes to cut your expenses as best as you can.

Use the money and equity that you do have to your advantage. You might be able to make a change in your home's mortgage to cut expenses. Another option is to use the equity in your home to help spend on other things that you need to buy each month.

Take your credit card bills and try to get better rates on them. Many times when you get a brand new card you might have low interest or might not have to make payments for a few months. This can free up some money or help you save money over time.

You might have things that you like to use but don't really need. You might turn off your air conditioning or not run your large screen television all day. This will save you money on your monthly bills.

Be careful about what you are eating. Shop at a grocery store and make your own meals. Avoid going out to eat or buying too many prepared meals as these are a bit expensive when on a budget. Search online for coupons that you can use on the products that you buy the most. This helps you save even more.

Get rid of every monthly subscription you don't need. This could be things like magazines, online gaming, dvd rentals, or even your cable. You might lack the entertainment that you normally have but at this point in time getting a job and controlling finances is much more important.
