Tips for Helping Out Single Moms During the Holidays

Lori Piper
Do you know any single moms? Are you a single mom? Imagine the holidays with your children if it was just you... no other familial help and you had to work full time every day right up until Christmas Eve?

Not a great deal of fun, huh? Not a lot of time to enjoy the holiday season?

Is there something you can do to assist in the holiday cheer of the holiday season?
Of course there is!

Tips for helping out single moms this holiday season- the ears have it

Take her some coffee... and just listen. Sometimes all a person needs is to vent. Talking or venting can relieve stress, as well as remind us that we are not alone. Listening can be the best gift of all.

Tips for helping out single moms this holiday season- never-ending errands

My friend's daughter was in the hospital with a burst appendix just last week...her husband was out of town for work. My other friend and I pitched in and did her grocery shopping for her, and cleaned her house... addressed Christmas card envelopes( she wrote the personal notes whilst at the hospital), bought stamps, picked up dry cleaning and purchased wrapping paper. We even set up her tree so that it would only need decorating once her daughter returned home. Help out a single mom and run an errand for her. Chances are you will be running the same if not similar errand yourself and that will save her some time.

Tips for helping out single moms this holiday season- Babies are not the only ones in need of pampering

Indulge your single mom with scented soaps or a gift card to Starbucks. Treats she will not spend on herself due to budget restraints... and we all know that we all need indulgences every now and again.

Tips for helping out single moms this holiday season- sing her a song

Well, in my case (I am so tone death!) not necessarily sing her a song, but sing her praises. Single moms often times do not receive enough positive feedback. Let her know she is a good mom. Encouragement can be the extra boost she needs to get through an extra tough week or survive a chaotic day.

Tips for helping out single moms this holiday season- coupons are our friends

Clip coupons that you know she will appreciate and use... better still use that coupon and purchase the item yourself and leave it on her front porch, tied with a little ribbon or bow.

Tips for helping out single moms this holiday season- yard work

Does your single mom have a yard? Do you have yard tools? Go over there with your kids and enjoy working in her yard for a couple hours one morning. No yards... offer to bring her a tree. Some tree farms offer discounted prices for smaller trees. If you purchase one for yourself, ask about them donating one of the smaller ones to someone you know in need.

In addition- these helpful tips can be done throughout the year!

Great article. As a married mom to a 16 mo old, I think a lot about how my mom did it as a single parent. Parenting is exhausting when you have a partner, I simply could not imagine doing it alone.
