Hosting Thanksgiving dinner can be a daunting task if you are not prepared. Whether you are hosting Thanksgiving dinner for just your immediate family or for a whole group of family, friends or coworkers, it doesn't have to hard. Here are some ways to be sure you are successful when hosting Thanksgiving dinner:

- Give yourself plenty of time to prepare. If possible, start planning your Thanksgiving dinner about a month ahead of time. This will give you plenty of time to figure out all the details.

- Decide right away if you are going to host a formal Thanksgiving dinner or a casual Thanksgiving dinner. Otherwise, you may get halfway through and realize you want to do more, and not be properly prepared. By deciding early, you will know exactly what you want.

- Create a menu. Don't try to think of things on the fly. Carefully plan out your menu, including drinks and desserts.

- Make a shopping list early, and then watch the sale ads for holiday sales. A lot of grocery stores will have great deals the week before Thanksgiving. By already having a shopping list ready, you can get the best prices on everything you need for Thanksgiving dinner.

- Create a guest list. This will help with place settings and knowing the amount of food you will need.

- Don't be afraid to ask for help. Get a few close friends to help with the preparations the day before and the day of. Hosting Thanksgiving dinner is a big task that is easily accomplished with a couple extra helping hands.

- Try asking guests to bring an item. Perhaps each family will bring a dessert. This will lighten your load a bit, and most people will not mind making one dish.

- If there will be a lot of kids attending your Thanksgiving dinner, have some activities prepared for them. By keeping the kids occupied, you will make the time more enjoyable for the adults.

- Don't plan anything else but dinner preparations for Thanksgiving day. A breakfast with your parents may sound harmless, but that will be crucial time when you could be preparing for the days events.

- Take the help of those who offer to help you clean up. It is tempting to just say a polite no thank you and then spend the rest of your night cleaning. By accepting the help of others, the clean up will go more quickly and allow you to socialize while you clean.

By following these dinner hosting tips, your Thanksgiving dinner will go a lot smoother. Most importantly, don't forget to enjoy your time with family and friends, even if you are busy hosting.
