Tips for Hosting a Tween Halloween Progressive Party

Maggie Ray
Being a Tween at Halloween may be another in between age group situation. Parents can solve this by hosting a Progressive Halloween Party especially for Tweens. A Progressive party moves from one house to another with different Halloween events and food provided a tween party host.

Here are some parent tips on setting up a Halloween Progressive party for your teen.

Progressive Halloween Party Tip #1

Find three other parents to host the party with you. Each host must be willing to offer up their home for part of the party for however many tweens you agree to invite. When you have hosts in place, line up extra parent volunteers for transportation.

Progressive Halloween Party Tip #2

Determine how many tweens to invite and coordinate with their parents on pick up, transportation and general party rules. DO this in advance of setting the mapped out locations for parents providing transportation and before deciding which party house will be first on the progressive party list.

Progressive Halloween Party Tip #3

Pick a Halloween Theme for the Progressive Tween Party. Maybe you want to use a fifties costume theme, a football related theme, Disney, or some other theme where costume ideas are plentiful. Try to choose something you can work your snacks and games around.

Progressive Halloween Party Tip #4

Get the invitations out early. Identify who the tween is to call if they are interested in attending and coordinate transportation, or parent drop off at the first house. If the parent is not a part of the party, they should be informed who will be providing transportation for their child and obtain written consent for such. Inform each tween to bring two bags of wrapped candy. These should be collected upon arrival and provided to the host of the final stop on the Halloween progressive party.

Progressive Halloween Party Tip #5

Set which event occurs at each house. The first house might house a picture taking session. Since this is the meet up location, the tweens will just be seeing each others costumes and will welcome the opportunity for time for group pictures. Plan for decorative spots to make photos and have adults be the picture taker so as many tweens as possible can be in the photo. This house should provide a light snack like pretzels or fruit or finger sandwiches. No more than 30 minutes should be spent at each house in order to have the tweens on their way back home at the end of two hours.

Progressive Halloween Party Tip #6

The second and third houses on the progressive party list should have some type of Halloween activity. One might host a haunted house, or perhaps a quick Goosebumps movie viewing. A scary story can also be a fun event. A quick game may be enjoyed also but choose one which can be played in costume. A scrambled word game, or a name horror movie contest can be enjoyed by tweens.

Progressive Halloween Party Tip #7

For the fourth and final house you should plan on food of some sort. The tweens will likely be starved by this time. Pizza or tacos or chili all go over well with this age group. If you are adventurous, of if your house count drops to 3 so that you do an hour at the final house, you might consider carving pep-o-lanterns. This activity is fun and simple to do by giving each tween a green pepper to carve a face into and stuffing it with pizza flavored rice. Full directions can be found in the link at the end of this article.

Progressive Halloween Party Tip #8

At the final house, you should divide up the candy the tweens brought into goody bags for them to take home. Make sure you know who each tween is leaving with and get an email address so you can mail out copies of all those digital pictures.

A Progressive Halloween Party takes a little up front planning but it can be memory making event for your tween. The years pass by quickly when they are young. Take time to enjoy them all
