Tips to Install HP PSC 2510xi Photosmart All-in-One Printer
How to Install HP PSC 2510xi Photosmart All-in-One Printer Without CD
My main problem with installing HP PSC 2510xi Photosmart All-in-One Printer was that I lost my setup CD. I would hit the "Scan" button on the printer, but the computer would not respond. An error message showed on the printer saying my settings were incorrect. Plugging the device with a USB did not re-install necessary files. I finally managed to get my printer back. Here are some tips if you run into the same problems when trying to install HP PSC 2510xi Photosmart All-in-One Printer.
Drivers and Installation Software
I found drivers and software downloads for HP PSC 2510xi Photosmart All-in-One Printer here and a list of operating systems was available. Choosing the right system was critical in obtaining the correct setup files. I chose Vista 34-bit, as that is my system. I would suggest that you check your system before downloading software. Click on "Start," "Control Panel," and select "System" or "System and Maintenance." Click on the "System" icon, you will see a configuration menu for your computer. Scroll down until you see "System Type." This information will let you know if your operating system is 64bit or 32bit.
USB Port
I use an USB connection with my HP PSC 2510xi printer. The USB should have picked up my device and asked to install the hardware, but it failed to do so. I suggest that you do not rely on this method of installation. Instead, obtain the executable installation file from HP. Also, do not plug your printer to the computer before running the installation file. Wait for a screen to open, as it will give you the right time to plug in the device.
Installation Process
Installing my HP PSC 2510xi Photosmart All-in-One Printer was a painless process once the necessary driver files were located. I ran the software installation file, which took close to 20 minutes to complete. A helpful progress window opened up and allowed me to keep track of the process. It was critical to have a reliable internet connection as I mentioned earlier, because the software had to update itself multiple times by connecting to HP's website.
A connection image shows during step 3 out of 4, which was an indication that it was my time to plug the printer to my laptop. I did so and the process continued with installation. I strongly advise that you wait to plug your HP PSC printer in until this critical step, as your operating system could corrupt driver files.
The installation process continued after the printer plugged into my laptop. It took a few more minutes for the software to process. A restart was required, which is another reason you should have all windows closed and documents saved.
After restart, HP PSC again asked for software updates. This process took about five minutes to complete. I could not open any documents or windows, as the system was incredibly slow. Make sure you dedicate enough time to installing your HP PSC 2510xi Photosmart All-in-One Printer. The process is not fast enough for those last minute printing jobs or if you are in extreme rush to get a project done.
A window opened asking if I wished to setup fax services. There are options to follow the wizard or click on "Cancel. " I had no time to mess with fax setup steps, and I can complete this process later.
Click on the "Finish" button on the last update screen. You will notice your computer becoming usable again. It seems like it takes forever to get to the final installation step. Double-click on the "HP Photosmart Essential" icon, now located on your desktop. You will be able to print, scan and copy documents with your HP PSC 2510xi. I had to restart one more time in order to get driver settings correct. These settings allowed me to push "Scan" on the printer and have the laptop respond to my request.
Overall, the process of re-installing my HP PSC 2510xi Photosmart All-in-One Printer without a CD was long but painless. Most importantly, all the drivers are functioning and the printer is responding. I hope that you find these tips helpful if you are combating the same HP printer installation problems.
