Tips on How to Install Your New Radio Without Cutting Your Dashboard

Mich Butler
So you plan to install a new radio but you are not sure how to do it. There is always the option of cutting your dashboard to fit, but if you are driving a classic you probably do not want to do that. Well you don't have to spend a fortune on one of those custom radios that are designed to fit into the original spot. Here is a trick to keep your classic looking cool, while at the same time blasting good tunes.

The first thing you want to do is look at your options. Check out pictures over the internet of your type of car. Hopefully there will be a configuration that looks good and would be simple to replicate. It might take a while but it is worth it. If you can not find a configuration on the internet, or thing of one yourself do not abandon hope. There is a good chance you can still mount the radio in a stylish, or hidden place.

The first thing you an do is see if you can find a spot underneath the dashboard that you can find that will be in your reach while your driving. To mount the radio underneath the dashboard, first you either find or make yourself a nice little box that your radio will fit in. then mount that in the spot you want it, then run the wires up into your trunk and back through into the cab were you want to put the speakers, follow the directions on the radio package.

Or if you have a small vehicle, like an old Volkswagen beetle, you can put the radio in the glove box. Just be careful that you mount it securely.

Another question you might have is where do you put the speakers? Well you might be able to make your old speakers work with your new radio. Just gently take the old radio wires off of your old speakers and gently replace them with your new speaker's wires.

But what if the speakers don't work or they are to tin can sounding? Well then what you need is either an old box or better yet a suitcase from the era your car was made. Cut round holes in the box, or suitcase and gently mount the speakers inside that way it will look like a decoration that sits on the back of your car rather then a box of speakers. Carefully put the wires so that they are not able to be seen.
