However sometimes, plain old gravy is plain old boring. Let's see if we can jazz gravy up.
Tips for jazzing up a side of gravy sauce- think herbs
Go ahead and heat up that jar of gravy to go along with pork chops. Once it is heated, simply add in a teaspoon of each: rosemary, thyme, and parsley. It will be herbal gravy.
You do not have any of those herbs on hand; try your own concoction of three different herbs then.
Tips for jazzing up a side of gravy sauce- mushrooms are the ticket
Craving mushrooms, or you have some mushrooms you need to use up before they go bad? Sauté ½ cup of mushrooms in a teaspoon of coking oil until the mushrooms are golden and mix in with a jar of gravy sauce. No one will know your gravy is not homemade.
Tips for jazzing up a side of gravy sauce- everything tastes better with bacon
Stir on two slices of cooked and crumbled up bacon with a jar of gravy. Even the most finicky of eaters will be asking for second helpings of this yummy gravy. Not only is this a great side with mash potatoes, but also it is also great over biscuits. Biscuits with gravy are a staple in our home.
Tips for jazzing up a side of gravy sauce- go spicy
Sauté one chopped shallot and one tablespoon coarsely chopped green pepper in cooking oil. Add to your gravy. Perfect for with steaks.
Tips for jazzing up a side of gravy sauce- think leftovers
If you have leftover turkey, chicken or any type of meat then chop up and reheat then mix in with your gravy. Perfect.
Not only will you be able to entice your children to eat more vegetables this way, but just think, you will also be cleaning out your refrigerator with food that often times go bad before you can use it all up. Look in your refrigerator and see what you have. What type of gravy can you whip up that is different and edible at the same time? Ask your children to help determine a gravy mix or your spouse. Surprise your mom with what she will think of homemade gravy. Do not tell her until after she sings your praises about your culinary skills.
Less waste, better taste... nothing wrong with that at all.
