There are several ways and places to search for jobs. Some are more effective than others. These are some great tips to get you on your way.

Be professional at all times! This cannot be stressed enough. Make sure that your answering machine and email address represent you in a professional way.

Be ready for work. Have a resume ready and on hand at all times. Keep an up to date resume in your purse or car in case you need it. Make sure you have your email address and phone number listed on your resume so that potential employers can get in touch with you.

Create several different templates of your cover letter and resume and tailor them to each job. You may want to highlight experience or education pertinent to the position that you are applying for.

You have a great network of friends and family members who would all probably like to see you happy and employed. Let them all know what kind of work you are looking for. You might be surprised what they can come up with.

Job search engines are a great tool. Use them everyday and save your searches to save you time. Sites like monster.com, careerbuilder.com, and hotjobs.com are great places to start. You can also have the search sites email you when new jobs that fit your criteria become available.

Be sure to look for industry or location specific job sites that may have more jobs listed in your area. Examplesof these are BAjobs.com for Jobs in the California Bay Area, hcareers.com which specializes in hospitality jobs, and plumbingagent.com which has plumbing jobs.

College graduates should check their college for free counseling and job searching assistance.

Save time by being prepared and ready at all times. You never know when and where a job offer may come up.
