Tips for Job Searching in Albuquerque, New Mexico

There are many resources a student living in Albuquerque, New Mexico can turn to for employment opportunities. With the exception of the work study and student employment jobs, all the jobs are also aimed at the general public. The resources I will list are ones I personally found as an undergraduate student, however, I know from personal experience that most of these places, especially those in newspapers and off campus listings are in need of workers from a variety of educational backgrounds. What you will find are listings that call for both clerical and fast food types of jobs to those more specialized such as tutoring and research. Whatever your niche, Albuquerque probably has a job open for you!

Work Study/Student Employment jobs for UNM Students

The University of New Mexico has teamed up with many organizations to provide student employment and work study jobs for their students. Work study jobs must be attained through filling out a FAFSA and becoming eligible for one through financial need. However, student employment jobs are aimed at all university students in general. Financial need is not a requirement, but as most students know, college students are broke! Off-Campus Listings:

These jobs do not require you to be a student, however, do target the UNM students for employment opportunities. Just because it is on the UNM website, do not let that divert you away from taking up these job opportunities. The majority of the off-campus job listings are from community individuals that need a service done, such as babysitting, tutoring, painting, or typing a manuscript. UNM Daily Lobo: Classifieds:

Many people subscribe to the UNM Daily Lobo or at least pick up a copy around Albuquerque, especially near campus. The job listings near the back of the paper not only have student-aimed jobs, but also other opportunities to work all over town, from restaurant openings, to child care positions and sports coaching. Alibi:

Most Albuquerquians have picked up the Alibi weekly newspaper at one time or another. It's filled with a bunch of zany articles, cultural content and local flare. It's funky, informative and always fresh. In the back are pages of classifieds that are free for anyone to place, which broadens one's opportunities. I've seen classifieds in there from job opportunities working in the health care field to more metaphysical places to working with children. The Alibi is aimed at the Albuquerque public as a whole. Coffee Houses:

Coffee houses are a great way to connect with community. Most coffee houses have bulletins available for the public to post anything they want from fliers of upcoming events to available jobs or even an opportunity for YOU to place your business card or your own flier describing a service you have available such as nanny, tree-trimming or arts and crafts. Hit up all the coffee houses in town, grabbing fliers and paper tabs with jobs on it and at the same time, post your own fliers/business cards around town!
