Check Job Postings Often

Now that you know where to search for jobs in Allentown, remember to check your resources often. This means checking your newspaper job classifieds and job websites daily. The sooner you see the job posting, the sooner you can apply for the job and the more likely you are to be noticed. During a recession, there is a much higher unemployment rate, and that means there are many more people competing for the same jobs. So, apply to jobs that interest you as soon as possible!

Update Your Resume

Update your resume with any new qualifications since your last job search, and make sure to check for errors. Include any skills that you think would be beneficial to your position. Employers are going to be looking for the most qualified applicant, and since there is currently such a high rate of unemployment, you need to make sure you stand out!

Use a Position Specific Resume

Make sure your resume only lists the jobs and qualifications that are relevant to your position. You want your resume to be to the point. Posting irrelevant jobs and qualifications just to add length to your resume will not prove that you are the most qualified individual for the job. You may even need to create several different resumes during your job search.

Increase Your Skills

Often being unemployed gives you more free time. Instead of just sitting around, waiting to hear from prospective employers about a new career, learn some new skills in your free time. Many community colleges or technical institutes have job and career training classes throughout the year. So, consider taking a daytime or evening class to brush up on your skills or add some new ones to become an even more qualified applicant!
