Being jobless is no joke, particularly during an economic recovery era. Whether your career has been short or long the sting from being unemployed can affect your psyche. Layoffs have occurred in practically genre of the workforce. Staying sharp during your off time can be challenging especially during long periods of unemployment. The daily routine of spending every minute looking for a job can be discouraging and oftentimes lead to depression.

Below are simple tips to help you maintain peace of mind until you return to the workforce.

Practice doing the things that you do well.

New careers have been discovered this way. A lot of our gifts and talents are seldom used and virtually go to waste. Consider finding time during the week to develop and utilize those competencies. Research how those skill sets can be made profitable. Knowing that you know how to do something well, and doing it, can make you feel pretty good.

Dress like you're going to work.

Leisure attire can lead to leisure thinking and complacency. Leave your home every day. And when you do, dress nicely. Even if you're just going to the news stand to buy a paper, taking the kids to school, going to a doctor appointment or the the grocery store, wear attractive apparel. Men, put on a nice pair of trousers, shirt and casual shoes. Women, wear a modest dress or slacks with a charming top and comfortable shoes. Feeling good about the way you look is positive energy and will put you closer to the mind set of being back in the work place.

Read.

Reading is powerful. Not only can it increase knowledge, it can free your mind from the stress of being unemployed. Negative news is not recommended, but reading books, magazines, and materials that you enjoy or newly discover can open a world of opportunities. Reading can also give you something new to talk about.

Walk.

Get in touch with your neighborhood again. Daytime walks are pleasant and can be informative as well. We're so accustomed to driving that we miss out on smelling the roses. During your walk visit the corner store, chat with retirees, see whats going on in your block and the nearby boulevard.

Volunteer.

Your community will always need you. Civic duty can be rewarding. See where you can help out at places like the senior center, parks, library, daycare center, hospitals, etc. There is no end to the things that you can do to help someone else.

Mentor.

Share your knowledge. Searching souls are all around us, people who need guidance and trusted influence. Make your self available to young and older alike.

Remember to maintain healthy eating and exercise often. Be blessed.
