Keep Your Child Safe Around Your Home

Timothy Scheiman
More and more accidents happen around the home than anywhere else. The problem is we don't take necessary precautions to keep our children safe around the house. Young children especially get into things and put harmful things in their mouths. These tips will help you keep things out of reach of children.

Put household cleaners up high

Normally people tend to keep household cleaners and chemicals under the kitchen sink or a cabinet. When your children are little they are curious so put your cleaners up high where they cannot get at them. Use them and put them back immediately. Don't leave them sitting where your child can get to them.

Cover unused electrical outlets

You can purchase covers and plugs that cover up exposed outlets. If a child was to stick something in the outlet he could be at risk. Electricity is dangerous and your child can electrocute himself in a matter of a few seconds. Don't put temptation out there cause your child could get seriously hurt or even die.

Check toys for safety before purchasing

If the toy you are purchasing has any chance that the child could hurt himself or get sick from it do not buy it. Toys must be safe when a child puts it in his mouth cause you know he will. You can check the Internet for nay problems with a toy.

Keep lighters and matches out of reach of children

Children love to imitate parents so if you have any bad habits keep those habits out of their reach. I am talking about lighters and matches. Just be careful around little children that you don't leave things laying around that they can hurt from.

Keep any firearms and alcohol under lock and key

Guns can kill and children can become seriously ill from alcohol. These things need to be under lock and key so they cannot get at them.

Don't leave medicine laying around

It doesn't take much for a child to OD on medicine that is left around that they can reach it. If your child got into some pills they can OD in a matter of minutes. If they are not gotten to within a few minutes they could die.

Take away all temptation around your house. Child proof your home. If you need assistance there is information on the Internet that you can access to help you child proof your home so your children can be safe.
