Teaching children to do chores is stressful to say the least. When you have a child that hates chores, it's even worse. Keeping children interested in doing chores is the key and there are several ways to keep them interested. Listed below you will find helpful tips for keeping children interested in doing chores.

Tips for Keeping Children Interested In Chores

1- Make chores fun. When children hate certain chores, it's boring for them. Make it fun for them and they will start doing a better job. You can try things like allowing them to play their favorite music while doing household chores. This means even if you disagree with the music, allow them to play it anyway. Yes, it will get on your nerves. At least they are interested in the music. This means, they won't mind doing the chore as long as they have something fun to listen to while working.

2- Give extra free time. Let your child know that if they complete all chores on their list you will give them a day off from chores. You can consider letting them have an extended curfew of an extra hour out with friends. What child would not like that extra hour out with friends? None, most children likes extra time out with friends. You just might discover the chores finished in a decent amount of time and done right.

3- Make a calendar. Place a calendar on a wall with chore listings and the days off for completing on time. You need to add the date or dates for extra time out with friends. Seeing it in writing will give them incentive to get chores done.

4- Help your children with chores. Pitching in and helping with the chores allows time to work together. You can talk about plans for the future or problems they may have going on in their life. Chores can be a great way to open communication skills between parent and child. It will also show children that hard work pays off. When chores are finished, they will feel good because they can look back and say, wow, I did it all and now I'm finished.

5- Give extra money for chores completed ahead of time. If your child completes chores days in advance or even hours, give them a little extra spending money. After all chores are hard and that deserves some pay. I know you are thinking parents have no money for doing household chores. That's true parents don't get paid but giving children extra money will keep them interested in completing chores in a timely manner.
