.) Make sure you have a job first, start small with something like furniture, you can buy something like a desk or a bed if you have your own apartment.
.) Next apply for something like a gasoline credit card, you will need that when you get your first car this will help improve your credit.
.) Apply for one major credit card you only need one, because to many credit cards will sooner or later put you in debt.
.) Only use your credit card for things like an emergency, or things you really need, because when it's ruined it take time to repair.
.) Than you can apply for an apartment, assuming you're ready to moved out of your parent house this is how you're going to get started.
.) Make sure when your bills come you pay all of them on time, because that's where the problem start with the bills.
.) Never co-sign for anyone or let them use your credit card no matter who they are, if you do that it will come back to hunt you in the future.
Keep your credit clean, and than when you're ready to buy that car you'll have no problems, this doesn't just apply to college students, this if for all consumers as well, because credit affect everyone. There will always be something you want like a car, house, apartment, or a loan, you may need to purchase a house, So, start early and don't over spend and pay all your bills on time, and try not to buy something you can't afford. Credit should be used when you need it, not because you have it. When you do buy something on your credit card make sure it's a small purchase like grocery's nothing to expensive, because credit card companies like when you make small purchases, because that shows them you know how to use your credit wisely, and when they see that, they will issue you more credit. You never want to max out your card leave some credit on the card for unexpected situations, or for a rainy day. Credit is a privilege, and if you abuse it you will not be able to get a simple thing like a computer, and almost everyone needs a computer because many things are done on the computer now like paying your bills, you may not even want to leave your house to pay a bill. Try not to use the card every time you need something thats a big mistake, if you have the cash use it. Try leaving your credit cards at home some times that will keep you from using them so much. You have to be in control of your credit and have some will power, because the worst thing is you will end up in debt. Avoid debt, when you're up to your ears in credit debt it's going to take years to pay them off, that's why it is important to only have one or two credit cards, and keep your credit in good standing. If you have a major credit card like a Master Card, or Visa you can go all over the world, and to just about any store that except credit cards and get what you need. Because one thing about having a credit card is when you pay them, they turn right back around and put the credit back on your credit card, so you're never really out of that money by paying your credit card. So, you'll keep your credit by doing these things mention above. Maybe about the only thing you can't use your credit card for is the pizza man.
