Do you often travel with your pet? Do you often take your pet with you on vacations? Do you worry about keeping her safe while doing this? Here are some tips to help you.
In The Car
Yes, it may be fun for you and your furry companion to go on rides and vacations. Yet, the first rule should be to teach our furry friend proper riding etiquette.
- Teach your pet to stay in her seat. Don't allow her to roam all over the car. This can cause your attention to wander off the road and can cause an accident.
- Teach your pet to sit in a car seat, if she is small.
- Teach your pet not to put her entire head out the window. This can be dangerous.
Once you teach your pet the above car riding etiquette you and your pet are ready for a real road trip vacation. But before you leave you may want to pack a few essential items first:
- A first aid kit, including bandages. Yes, even your pet can get cut.
- Any and all medications that your pet takes on a regular basis.
- Favorite toy or toys to help keep make your pet comfortable
- Favorite blanket or pillow to help make your pet comfortable.
- Motion sickness medication for your pet, just in case. You can get this from your vet.
- Your pet's phone number and phone numbers of vets in the area of your destination or travel area, just in case.
On A Plane
Yes, traveling with your pet on a plane may not be a fun experience for her. You know you won't be able to travel together. However, there are things you can do to make her flight easier, such as:
- Look for a flight that is nonstop.
- Be sure to put your pet's favorite toy and blanket inside her carrier to make the ride more comfortable for her.
- Time your travel during cooler months if you can. Pets will become hotter faster than we will.
- Time your travel during early morning or late evening, when you can. These periods of the day are cooler and will be more comfortable heat wise on pets.
At Your Destination
Once you get where to your destination, you and your pet should have some fun. But to do this first, you should make sure your pet is comfortable. Place your pet's favorite toy or toys where she can see them. Lay out her favorite pillow or blanket. Feed her if she is hungry. Then concentrate on her safety.
- Make sure her ID is still on her and make sure that this ID includes: your travel address, along you is her name, your name and a contact phone number.
- Make sure that her leash is secure when you take her outside.
If you follow the above simple steps in keeping your pet safe while traveling both you and her should have a fun, safe and memorable trip.
