Romance and intimacy are important spices that are necessary to make a flavorful and savory relationship. Of course, the key spices have to be added to a quality portion of love, trust, and mutual respect, but once you add equaling parts of all, you should have a delectable feast that will satisfy the hunger of companionship.

Every relationship hits bumps and rough patches. However if you spend your couple time building special moments and memories, you will have these times to reflect back upon and those moments will help carry you two over the hurdles and obstacles. This is why keeping the romance alive is an important aspect of a relationship.

Make time for each other. Yes, this is the most important way to keep the romance alive. As a couple, you have to be willing to set aside special time for each other. All too often, couples become too busy in the everyday events, and it becomes easier to sacrifice the romance as opposed to finding and making the time for each other. Sure, work and or children can add stress and complications to life and schedules, but romance can be achieved in little ways that do not take up much time, yet achieve that intimate and tender moment we as humans need to connect with. Romance is all about creating a mood, touching the senses, cradling the heart, and mingling with each other's souls; so, be creative.

Here are some helpful hints that can enhance a relationship and keep the romance healthy and alive:

The bubble bath is an easy and subtle way to bring romance into your life. You can choose one day a week or one day a month and make it your special romance time. Light scented candles, sense pleasing smells from bubble bath and body washes, some wine, soft music playing, and you and your partner entwined as your bodies relax and unwind in the soothing warmth of the water. It is definitely a wonderful way to shut out the complexities of the day and share a moment with someone we love.

The backyard night picnic is another great and inexpensive way to create romance within the folds of our busy lives. Again, gather up your candles, choose a not so out in the open spot in your yard, or for those in apartments, try the roof or fire escape. Spread out a blanket and set up a spread of simple foods. You do not have to be overly fancy with the foods---finger snacks, cheeses and fruits and wine work well. Remember, romance is all about making time and creating a special moment.

Music nights can be romantic. Get out the old vinyls, cassettes, and cds, turn off the lights and light some candles, snuggle on the couch or floor, and enjoy the memories brought out by the music as you create new memories. The light banter and exchange of innocent reflections can create romance. It allows you two to share and enjoy each other's experiences and tales. Music, itself, can lend to creating a romantic experience.

For the more adventurous person who may have a little extra money to spend, you can surprise your loved one with a romantic overnight getaway. You do all the planning and all the work to pull off an exciting romantic retreat. If you have children in your equation, you prearrange an overnight sitter. Pack an overnight getaway bag for you and your loved one. When they arrive home from their daily routines, you ask them to put on a blindfold, lead them to the car, and whisk them off to a romantic retreat---nice hotel, bed and breakfast, cabin rental, etc.

Keeping with the above idea and the romantic getaway theme, you can also do this as a surprise weekend or week long getaway. It may be more complicated to pull off, but it can be done if you take the time to plan it, and the element of surprise really will help create that special and romantic moment.

Too many couples here the word romance and think they have to spend lots of money on materialistic gifts, and that will equate to romance. However, unless the couple is shallow and materialistic, romance has more to do with the moment that is created and the mood that is established. If a couple keeps that in mind, they can make almost any moment a romantic one. An evening walk under the star dotted sky, holding hands as you stroll along, stopping only for the occasional tender kiss in the illumination of the street lights keeps the romance alive. Truly knowing each others likes and interests can also create romance. Think about how special you would feel if your loved one created a special moment that included one of your interests. Would it not feel and be romantic just knowing that your special person truly knows you and what you like? That is romance. When we can put aside the everyday and create a moment that incorporates each other, that is romance, and that will help you keep the romance alive.
