Simple Steps for Helping Control Ladybug Infestations

Ladybugs can be adorable and cute but when you have hundreds and thousands of them infesting your windows and doors they can become a headache. If you are looking for some easy ideas to help with Ladybug Control around your house and office take these suggestions to rid yourself of these cute headaches.

Caulk around Windows and Doors
The best simplest way to prevent Ladybugs from entering your house is to caulk all window and door openings around your house. Pay special attention to windows that tend to have a higher ladybug concentration. Chances are that the particular doors that have a higher ladybug concentration have holes and leaks that are allowing them in.

Permethrin
The most effect product for Ladybug Control is a spray called Sawyer Permethrin. Ladybugs traditionally will refuse to enter areas that contain Permethrin and if they do they will tend to die fairly quickly. Sawyer Permethrin is available here and has been found to be non-toxic to humans. Other bug sprays that contain Permethrin will do the same job.

Ammonia
Mix a teaspoon of water to a gallon of water and spray around your window and door openings. I have noticed that the ammonia repels the Ladybugs quite effectively. If one teaspoon to a gallon is not strong enough you can increase the ammonia a little bit at a time until you find the right mixture for your house. Ammonia is very strong so be careful if you are using it around children and always use ammonia in a well ventilated area.

Vicks Vapor Rub
If ammonia is to strong for your home and you are afraid of using products that contain Permethrin for Ladybug Control then try some Vicks Vapor Rub. You can purchase Vicks Vapor Rub from any grocery or drug store in varying amounts. Just apply a thin coating of Vicks Vapor Rub around windows and doors paying special attention to any area that has unsealed cracks and crevices. We have found that Ladybugs detest the smell of menthol so find any product that contains menthol and use it liberally.

Wash your Window and Door Frames
Ladybugs tend to return year after year to the same spot due to previous generations of ladybugs leaving behind pheremones. If you are having problems with ladybug control year after year, try washing windows and doorways using hot soapy water. Once you have washed down all windows and doors that are problem areas make sure and spray the outside of your house with one of the above mentioned products.

Ladybug Control
during an infestation can be done and currently there are several products being tested and show future promise. Hopefully these tips help you during your next ladybug infestation.

I think they're finally gone but I'll have to remember some of this for the next round of those cute little pests.

Darn ladybugs-found out they bite-won't be handling them or tricked by their cuteness...be gone ladybugs-be gone.

OR...you can put them all on your hand and blow after you say, "Ladybug, ladybug fly away home."

Great tips, I do love ladybugs but not mountains of them. My family once found out the hard way that ladybugs have a nasty little secret most don't know about. We found a ladybug hill in the woods and thought it was the coolest thing ever, of course we wanted to take some home in case no one belived us so we began filling our pockets, hands, etc... You can allow 1 or 2 of them to crawl on you all day but if you disturb their nest you had better be prepared because those cute little things have a nasty bite. When you have covered your body with hundreds and they begin to have a snack at your expense you earn a new respect for the nesting pile of insects.
