Wear sunscreen. Wearing sunscreen is very important in preventing wrinkled skin and sun spots. You can buy sunscreen specifically for your face or for your entire body. The sun has damaging effects on your skin and can cause wrinkles later in life. You can also form sun spots as you age due to overexposure in the sun. I am not telling you to avoid the sun, because you need sun for Vitamin D and for your overall mood. I am saying that if you are going to be out in the sun, use sunscreen.
Drink water. Drinking a good amount of water each day is very good for your skin. A good amount of water could be about 6-8 cups a day. Purified or spring water is best. Water plumps up your skin and fills in those lines and wrinkles. It also flushes toxins out of your body and improves your skin tone and may help with preventing blemishes. Water keeps your skin hydrated and moisturized. Moisturized skin looks more healthy and youthful than dry, flaky skin. Drink water each day and you will not only see an improvement in your looks, but also improvement in your mood. Drinking enough water each day helps your mood and it can fight off depression. When you are in a better mood, you feel more energy and therefore feel younger.
Exercise and eat healthy. Exercise is good for your body and mind. You will feel more energetic throughout the day. It also boosts your mood and can help to reduce stress. Try to exercise at least 3 days a week. Go for a walk, dance to some good music for a half hour or buy an exercise tape. Make sure to keep your body moving. Your energy levels will increase and you will feel and look younger. Also, eat a balanced healthy diet. This does mean you cannot eat chips or ice cream, but if you do, do so in moderation. Try to cut down on sugar, which I've heard, can actually cause wrinkles later in life. Whole grains, fruits and vegetables are good choices. I've also heard that green smoothies can help make you appear younger and feel younger. The green smoothie is a smoothie in which fresh baby spinach leaves or any dark leafy green is mixed with any kind of fruit and water or milk in a blender. I have tried these and feel so much better after drinking them.
Play and laugh. Don't forget to be playful. Dance. Sing. Play with your children or grandchildren. Tell funny jokes. Laugh a lot. Laughing reduces stress. Too much stress can make you look aged. Try to get out and do something that will make you feel young again. Go on a date with your spouse/significant other and pretend like it's your first date again. Feel the feelings you felt when you were first dating. It has been said that being in love can give you a healthy glow. Bring out your inner child. Go to the playground and swing on the swings. Just try to do something that keeps you feeling young and childlike again. You will feel more joyous and less stressed.
Keep moving. Don't slow down. When you start feeling "old", don't slow down. Trick your mind into thinking that you are still young and can do almost anything you did when you were younger. Keep your body moving and your mind sharp. Do crossword puzzles to sharpen your mind and memory. Try exercising or gardening. You could join a gym or sign up for dance lessons. If you keep your body moving, you will stay moving. It's when you stop moving and succumb to the aging process that your body will begin to slow down. A body in motion stays in motion. It will make you feel more youthful because you will have more energy.
Moisturize. Keeping your skin moisturized will help to make it look younger. Use a good moisturizer for your skin type. You know the look of dry, leathery skin. It looks wrinkled and old. Moisturizing your skin gives it the hydration it needs to plump it up and make it look more healthy and younger.
Quit smoking. Smoking can cause your skin to age faster and can make wrinkles and lines around your mouth and eyes. It also makes your skin look duller and can stain your teeth. If you think you might be able to do it, try to quit smoking. Not only will help your appearance but it will also help to prevent any health problems associated with smoking.
These tips are tips that you may already know about but maybe by reading them again, you will realize that these are important steps to keep yourself feeling and looking young. Keeping the fountain of youth is up to you. Do it for yourself.
