The first thing you can do is retrace your steps, though this is not a good idea if you have traveled a long distance. If you did only go a mile or two you could drive around and look at the sides of the road for anything shiny. Remember you might find someone else's hubcap if that's the case, you may want to pick it up anyway in hopes you can find someone over the internet who will trade that hubcap for one that will fit your car.
Another option is to look up your type of hubcap on websites such as Craigslist or eBay that way you might be able to find just one, or more likely just three, remember the person selling them is probably doing so because he lost one as well. That way you can replace the missing hubcap at a fraction of what it was going to cost you to buy an entire new set.
One of the things you can do locally is go to your local superstore such as Wal-Mart or Target and go to the automotive section. Chances are that if your car is modern, you will be able to find a replacement set of hubcaps that do not cost all that much. Just be careful that you do not buy a cheap set of hubcaps that are made of a flimsy thin plastic. Make sure you examine your choices and pick the set that fits you, not just the cheapest one that will fit on your car.
If all else fails and you are unable to find a set of hubcaps in your price range, do not despair, there is an old hotrod trick you can do to make your car look cool without hub caps. All you need to do is paint your rims. The classic color to do this is red, but you can choose any color you want for your car. To paint your hub caps first make sure you mask off the rest of your car, including your tires, then follow the directions that the can of spray paint tell you.
No matter which method you choose, you will probably want to keep the extra hubcaps in the trunk of your car, just in case you loose another one.
