Whether you have a desktop model or laptop, caring for your computer properly is important if you want it to run efficiently. Maintaining a laptop differs slightly from caring for a desktop. This article will give you a few tips on how to maintain a laptop.

Airflow

You should be aware that laptops have less space to put vents, so they naturally have limited airflow. Therefore, you should avoid blocking these vents which may cause overheating. You can unknowingly do this by using the unit on top of a table or on bedding. Know where the vents on your particular design are located.

They can also become blocked over time with dust. You can use a small toothbrush to clean them out if this occurs. You can also buy a special dust blower designed especially for computers. A small vacuum cleaner hose will also do the trick.

Screen

When maintaining your laptop, you should clean the screen occasionally. Avoid using a rough cloth because this can scratch the screen. Various household cleaners contain harmful chemicals such as ammonia, so you should avoid using them to clean the display. Instead, you should use a special screen cleaning solution and gently wipe it off with a soft, clean cloth.

Temperature

Proper laptop maintenance also includes avoiding exposing your unit to hazardous temperature conditions. Most importantly, this means never leaving your computer in the car on a hot summer day. If you leave it in the car during the winter, condensation may form inside the machine. Therefore, you shouldn't turn it on immediately when you bring it back inside.

Stickers

Most laptops come with stickers when you buy them. It's best that you remove these stickers as soon as possible. If you leave them on, they will certainly leave behind a residue that will be difficult to clean off.

These are a few tips on proper laptop maintenance. You should avoid exposing your computer to prolonged periods of heat. It's also important that you don't block the vents, or the unit may overheat. You will also need to clean the screen occasionally with a special solution.
