1. Prepare Your Skin for Halloween
One way to start preparing your skin for Halloween is to take steps for regular skincare maintenance beforehand. Wash your face daily, in the morning and before bedtime to keep it clean. Use toner if it is a part of your daily routine and don't forget to moisturize. If you want to deep clean your skin before Halloween, try one of the at-home skincare masks available at most drugstores or from a skincare representative.
2. Buy Hypo-allergenic Products
Not all Halloween costume make-up products are created equal. Cheaper Halloween make-up may seem attractive on the shelf, but if you have any existing skin problems or sensitive skin, these type of Halloween make-up products can cause breakouts and rashes, as well as skin irritations. Check the ingredients of any Halloween make-up products before you buy and look for hypo-allergenic products or better quality Halloween make-up.
3. Avoid Plastic or Rubber Masks
Heavy plastic or rubber Halloween masks can turn your face into a sauna in a matter of minutes. The longer you wear these types of masks, which tend to cover the face and skin like a sweaty blanket, the more likely you skin is to become irritated. If you must wear a plastic or rubber mask as part of your Halloween costume, give your face and skin regular breaks to breathe.
4. Let Your Skin Breathe
Heavy Halloween make-up can suffocate the skin, even when it is on for only short periods of time. Proper skincare is essential for maintaining healthy skin that has been subjected to heavy Halloween make-up. One way to help your skin breathe is to do some extra cleansing and moisturizing before and after putting on Halloween make-up. Give your skin a break after Halloween and go without normal make-up for a few days afterwards.
5. Clean Your Skin After Wearing Halloween Make-Up
Skin should be cleaned after wearing any Halloween make-up until all traces are washed off. The longer Halloween make-up stays on the skin, the more likely it will clog the pores or cause irritation. Clean your face as soon as you are ready to remove any Halloween make-up, and follow up with a second cleansing and a moisturizer before bedtime.
6. Try to Use Regular Make-Up
There are many Halloween costumes which could easily use regular make-up to create the right look. Instead of using heavier and oilier Halloween make-up, consider looking for alternatives at your local cosmetic counter. Lipstick and eyeliner can go a long way toward creating new looks for your Halloween costume.
7. Avoid Excess Candy and Junk Foods
Your skin will likely be affected in a negative way if you decide to eat excess amounts of Halloween candy and junk food. Breakouts are common when your diet is made up of too many sweets. The candy temptation may be there, but remember to drink plenty of water and eat healthy foods during the Halloween season, to keep your skin looking healthy.
