Tips on Making a Costume Out of the Clothes in Your Closet

Mich Butler
A simple thing you can do for Halloween, or any other reason you would want to be in costume, is go to your local Good Will, garage sales, or the back of your closet, for old cheap clothing. You have several options you can do with old cloths that you could never find in a department store. Plus you can be sure that you will not be in the same thing as someone else at the party.

If you have a suit or dress you would not be caught dead in, you can use it to make a costume that you would be caught undead in. Rip up a shoulder and put a tear or two in a couple of places, then add fake blood. Buy some white makeup and paint your face white. The white face paint can be purchased at most department stores around the time of Halloween. Also the Halloween make up kit will probably come with some red with it. Use this around your mouth to make it look a little more terrifying.

Another thing you can do is turn yourself into a lovable hobo. If you are a man all you have to do is not shave for a couple days until your beard grows out and gets scruffy, or you can buy some brown or black make up and put little tiny stripes around your shin to look like a beard. A nice floppy hat would also add to the ensemble but do not rip a good hat.

Another thing you can do if you have a very fancy suit or dress is get yourself a set of vampire teeth and white face paint. The best way to pull off a vampire costume does not involve black clothing. A normal or old fashioned suit will be perfect, especially if you do your hair in a fancy sort of pattern. For guys you might want to slick it back with oil for a bella lagosi pattern. A red sheet can sometimes ad a bit of old fashioned class, but be warned because it may look tacky if your suit does not match the time period where capes were still being used, or

Also you can always take a dress or suit of yours and turn yourself into a modern or old movie star. For instance, a red wig and a sun dress can make several people look like Lucile ball. Be careful when you do this, because it may not be exactly obvious, especially if you are doing a movie star that is not as well known as Marilyn Monroe or Fred Astaire.
